Up and down and up again

-

POSTERS WENT up across the county last week but they were a day early for one candidate in Greystones was a day early – and he ended up being reported to Wicklow County Council.

Some posters for first-time Fianna Fail candidate Gerry Walsh were erected on Tuesday, ahead of the permitted time of midnight onwards on Wednesday, and Mayor of Greystones Stephen Stokes was less than impressed.

The Labour man said he was ‘really disappointed’ with Walsh and that he had taken photos and reported the matter to the County Council.

Late on Tuesday evening Gerry Walsh and his team took down the election posters again and Mr. Walsh apologise for the ‘genuine mistake'.

In a bid to rectify matters he said, ‘I have also decided, in fairness to the other candidates, that I will wait a further 72 hours to put my posters back up again.'

On Wednesday afternoon Cllr. Stokes said he had discussed the matter with Gerry Walsh and had accepted the apology.

‘ Wicklow County Council will not be pursuing this on my request as Gerry removed all posters,’ he said.
