Balt­in­glass Golf Club

Over 100 mem­bers played in the first ma­jor of the year. The weather was very change­able, plenty of show­ers mixed with tough windy con­di­tions. Fer­gal Doogue played a very con­sis­tent round of golf to have a 69 to win the 'Spring Medal'.

Ed­die Hil­lan con­tin­ued his rich vain of form with a 71 to come sec­ond and Tony De­laney had a 72 to come third in the Doogue Fam­ily spon­sored weekend. Ray­mond Danne won the gross with a 78. CSS was 73.

Re­sults - 1st: Fer­gal Doogue (5) 69; 2nd: Ed­die Hil­lan (26) 71; 3rd: Tony De­laney (20) 72; Gross: Ray­mond Danne (5) 78.

Easter Open Sin­gles - Adam McHugh is fol­low­ing in his great fa­thers Robert (alias Roger) foot­steps when he shot a fan­tas­tic 41pts, to win the first ma­jor open sin­gles of the year.

Gar­rett Whelan played some lovely golf to shoot 37pts to clinch sec­ond place.

Re­sults - 1st: Adam McHugh (10) 41pts; 2nd: Gar­rett Whelan (14) 37pts.

Our U-18 team played in the qual­i­fy­ing round in New­bridge on Fri­day last.

The team lead by Clare Byrne in­cluded Gary Allen, Adam McHugh, Wil­liam Byrne, Kevin Lord, Mikey Keogh, Mark Doogue and Joseph Byrne just missed out on qual­i­fi­ca­tion by a cou­ple of shots. Hard luck lads and our thanks to Tom O'Neill for his tu­ition, help and guid­ance with the lads!

Open Su­per Sin­gles - The club is host­ing its an­nual Open Su­per Sin­gles this weekend, Fri­day 2nd, Satur­day 3rd, Sun­day 4th, and Mon­day 5th May with prizes to the value of €1500.

First prize is a set of Tay­lor Made RBZ Irons. Sec­ond Prize is a Scotty Cameron Put­ter, third prize is a dis­tance mea­sur­ing de­vice, fourth prize is a Titleist Vokey Wedge and fifth prize is a Fe­line Put­ter.

Cost is €20 per per­son with re-en­try at €10. For your en­try you will au­to­mat­i­cally be in­cluded in a 2's com­pe­ti­tion!

As there is no fundraiser com­pe­ti­tion this spring the com­mit­tee are en­cour­ag­ing mem­bers to bring along a vis­i­tor, to show off beau­ti­ful Balt­in­glass, and play in this com­pe­ti­tion for these won­der­ful prizes. Time sheet is in oper­a­tion.

Se­nior Women's G.S. - The Se­nior Women's Golf So­ci­ety cel­e­brated their 20th an­niver­sary this year at a Din­ner hosted by Mary McKenna, MBE at Don­abate Golf Club on Sun­day 13th April 2014.

The din­ner for past play­ers on the Se­niors Ir­ish Team and the founder mem­bers of the so­ci­ety was an out­stand­ing suc­cess.

Balt­in­glass was rep­re­sented by Mai Quaid who played on the first se­niors team in Burn­ham and Ber­row Golf Club in Somerset against Eng­land in 1998. The present Ir­ish Se­niors team mem­bers also at­tended and the mem­bers of the Scot­tish Se­niors Team who played in the two-day match in Don­abate where the Ir­ish team were the even­tual win­ners. Con­grat­u­la­tions to the team and to the or­gan­is­ers of the event and din­ner.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to the Ladies Mi­nor Cup team who de­feated En­nis­cor­thy in Balt­in­glass in the sec­ond round on Sun­day, April 27 win­ning 4-1 for an im­pres­sive vic­tory. Thanks to all those who came to sup­port the team.

Well done to the Provin­cial Towns team who de­feated Ark­low and also con­grat­u­la­tions to the Le­in­ster Four­ball team who had a great win over the Euro­pean Club.

Hard luck to the Ladies Ju­nior Cup team who lost to Wood­en­bridge. Many thanks to all those who came to sup­port the team in very cold and windy con­di­tions.

Best of luck to the Ir­ish Mixed Four­somes team in their sec­ond round match against Kil­coole on Sun­day, May 4 at 3pm. Please come along and sup­port the team.
