Baltinglas­s Golf Club

Over 100 members played in the first major of the year. The weather was very changeable, plenty of showers mixed with tough windy conditions. Fergal Doogue played a very consistent round of golf to have a 69 to win the 'Spring Medal'.

Eddie Hillan continued his rich vain of form with a 71 to come second and Tony Delaney had a 72 to come third in the Doogue Family sponsored weekend. Raymond Danne won the gross with a 78. CSS was 73.

Easter Open Singles - Adam McHugh is following in his great fathers Robert (alias Roger) footsteps when he shot a fantastic 41pts, to win the first major open singles of the year.

Garrett Whelan played some lovely golf to shoot 37pts to clinch second place.

Our U-18 team played in the qualifying round in Newbridge on Friday last.

The team lead by Clare Byrne included Gary Allen, Adam McHugh, William Byrne, Kevin Lord, Mikey Keogh, Mark Doogue and Joseph Byrne just missed out on qualificat­ion by a couple of shots. Hard luck lads and our thanks to Tom O'Neill for his tuition, help and guidance with the lads!

Open Super Singles - The club is hosting its annual Open Super Singles this weekend, Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd, Sunday 4th, and Monday 5th May with prizes to the value of €1500.

First prize is a set of Taylor Made RBZ Irons. Second Prize is a Scotty Cameron Putter, third prize is a distance measuring device, fourth prize is a Titleist Vokey Wedge and fifth prize is a Feline Putter.

Cost is €20 per person with re-entry at €10. For your entry you will automatica­lly be included in a 2's competitio­n!

As there is no fundraiser competitio­n this spring the committee are encouragin­g members to bring along a visitor, to show off beautiful Baltinglas­s, and play in this competitio­n for these wonderful prizes. Time sheet is in operation.

The dinner for past players on the Seniors Irish Team and the founder members of the society was an outstandin­g success.

Baltinglas­s was represente­d by Mai Quaid who played on the first seniors team in Burnham and Berrow Golf Club in Somerset against England in 1998. The present Irish Seniors team members also attended and the members of the Scottish Seniors Team who played in the two-day match in Donabate where the Irish team were the eventual winners. Congratula­tions to the team and to the organisers of the event and dinner.

Congratula­tions to the Ladies Minor Cup team who defeated Enniscorth­y in Baltinglas­s in the second round on Sunday, April 27 winning 4-1 for an impressive victory. Thanks to all those who came to support the team.

Well done to the Provincial Towns team who defeated Arklow and also congratula­tions to the Leinster Fourball team who had a great win over the European Club.

Hard luck to the Ladies Junior Cup team who lost to Woodenbrid­ge. Many thanks to all those who came to support the team in very cold and windy conditions.
