Aldi plans new store in Arklow
April 2004
A FOURTH major supermarket chain could be about to enter the Arklow marketplace, following confirmation that Aldi intend to apply for planning permission for a northside store.
The seaside town is already served by Tesco, Pettitts and Lidl. Aldi now plans to erect a store on a 2.5 acre site at North Quay, formerly a warehouse which they have purchased for a figure believed to be in excess of €1.6m.
Aldi Stores Ltd. say they will be seeking full planning permission for their proposed development.
Their plans include the demolition of the existing warehouse premises, the construction of a discount food store with a gross floor area of 1,163 square metres and 108 parking spaces.
