Aldi plans new store in Ark­low

A FOURTH ma­jor su­per­mar­ket chain could be about to en­ter the Ark­low mar­ket­place, fol­low­ing con­fir­ma­tion that Aldi in­tend to ap­ply for plan­ning per­mis­sion for a north­side store.

The sea­side town is al­ready served by Tesco, Pet­titts and Lidl. Aldi now plans to erect a store on a 2.5 acre site at North Quay, for­merly a ware­house which they have pur­chased for a fig­ure be­lieved to be in ex­cess of €1.6m.

Aldi Stores Ltd. say they will be seek­ing full plan­ning per­mis­sion for their pro­posed de­vel­op­ment.

Their plans in­clude the de­mo­li­tion of the ex­ist­ing ware­house premises, the con­struc­tion of a dis­count food store with a gross floor area of 1,163 square me­tres and 108 park­ing spa­ces.
