Youth was ‘very abusive’ to DART employee

-

A YOUTH who was abusive to a DART employee after he caught him trying to use his mother's travel pass had his case adjourned to allow for the preparation of a probation report when he came before Bray District Court.

The youth, who cannot be named because of his age, was charged with engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behavior at Greystones DART station on April 20, 2013.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and the court heard that at 12.55 p.m. on the day in question, the youth had attempted to use his mother's travel pass but was stopped by the DART employee. The employee then confiscated the pass and this angered the youth, who became ‘very abusive'.

He called the DART employee a ‘wa*ker' and when leaving the DART station attempted to pull over a rubbish bin, but was unable to do so because it was too heavy.

Acting for the youth, solicitor Conway O'Hara said the youth accepts his behaviour was ‘erratic, irrational and unacceptable'. He said it showed a lack of anger management.

Mr. O'Hara said the youth had become upset when his mother's disability pass was taken from him. He said the youth was entitled to travel on the pass when he was accompanying his mother but not when he was alone.

' This was born out of frustration,’ said Mr. O'Hara adding that the youth had no previous convictions.

Judge Kennedy noted that another public order charge had been struck out but said ' there's still a second incident and on that basis I'm going to look for a probation report. Two incidents of public order offences at such a young age need some intervention', he said adjourning the case until July 10.
