‘Meet and Greet’ farce

-

WICKLOW GAA Chairman, Martin Coleman, says he doesn't know the reason for the poorly attended 'Meet and Greet' session organised for the young GAA supporters in the county.

The annual event usually sees supporters flock to Aughrim to meet the Wicklow Senior footballers but this year only a handful of fans turned up to meet their heroes and one player, Paddy Dalton, took to Twitter afterwards to wonder why the 'Meet and Greet' was organised the same evening that Go Games were taking place all over the county.

“Players meet and greet tonight 'organised' the same night as all the underage go games so no kids could attend. Games promotion?” wondered Dalton.

But Martin Coleman says that the Go Games shouldn't have stopped people bringing their kids down to Aughrim for the event,

“I honestly don't know where it went wrong,” said Coleman. “Notice went out to the clubs from the County Board but they didn't turn up. Go Games are organised every Friday night so I wouldn't use them as an excuse. There are other children who could have went to Aughrim. We wouldn't be the only county that this happened to last weekend, I believe there were three or four that this happened to,” he added.

Coleman promises to review the 'Meet and Greet' at the next county management meeting and he suggests that they will look at holding it within a different format.
