Challenges facing tourism in Wicklow

NEW QUESTIONNAIRE TO GAUGE OPINIONS OF TOURISM OPERATORS

- By MYLES BUCHANAN

OPERATORS within the tourism industry in Wicklow will be offered an opportunity to provide feedback on what challenges the Garden County faces.

A questionnaire was put together by Wicklow County Tourism so they can get a better understanding of the assets the county has to offer and what improvements can be made.

The information will also help define the key opportunities that our county should focus on in terms of tourism development and promotion.

Noel Keyes, Chairman of Wicklow County Tourism says, ‘as the whole country steps out of recession and tourism numbers continue to grow, the establishment of our trade only Marketing Work Group is a great step in the progression of Wicklow County Tourism. I therefore urge any business within the tourism industry to fill our short questionnaire and send their feedback. The information collected will give us the tools to draw a strong marketing plan for 2015 and define a vision for the future of tourism in our county.’

This questionnaire was developed under the supervision of the newly formed Marketing Work Group that the board of Wicklow County Tourism set up recently. This group is exclusively made of members from the trade and have the key function to research tourism opportunities for the County and define marketing activities to fit.

‘ The newly formed Marketing Work Group is a very positive and exciting step forward for Wicklow tourism’ says Gerard O’Brien from the Woodenbridge Hotel, who chairs the group.

‘It provides a real opportunity for those involved in the tourism industry in Wicklow, to take the initiative and shape how Wicklow will be marketed in the coming years. The group has started working on a marketing plan for 2015, and this questionnaire is an opportunity for members of the trade to have their input into this plan.’

The questionnaire is accessible at visitwicklow.ie/survey2014.
