Speeds in housing estates to be examined by council
CLLR Jennifer Whitmore is conducting a public consultation on speed limits in housing estates and is calling on people to get in touch if they have problems with speeding in their areas.
The Department of Transport and Wicklow County Council are currently investigating speed limits in residential areas with the goal of improving road safety for cyclists, pedestrians and children in particular.
‘ To assist in this, Wicklow County Council is compiling a list of 30 estates in the county where there may be speeding problems,’ said Cllr Whitmore.
‘ These 30 estates will be used as a pilot scheme to see what impact reducing the speed limit to 30km/hr and improving signage has on the speeding problems.’
As part of the initiative, Greystones Municipal District has been asked to nominate five estates and Cllr Whitmore is asking people to get in touch. She has also asked for clarity on whether estates that the council has not yet taken charge of such as Holywell in Kilcoole and Charlesland in Greystones can be included.
