Piano masterclass for young players
THE Piano masterclass at Bray Music Centre last Sunday was a first for some of the young people taking part. In front of a small audience, the participants played a wide selection of classical favourites from Bach, Mozart, Grieg, Chopin and Debussy.
Each performance was followed by a public lesson with eminent guest, Lance Coburn. It was a chance to get tips and advice from a professional pianist.
Since winning first prize at the Tomassoni International Piano Competition, Cologne in 2001, Lance has performed all over the world as a concerto soloist and recitalist. He also broadcasts frequently for radio and has released recordings of chamber music and new works.
Much in demand as a solo performer, chamber musician and accompanist, Lance is regularly invited to adjudicate at numerous festivals including the Bray Centre Music Festival. He is also a piano lecturer at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.
