Great turnout for football league competitio­n in Bray

anz Football League - The north east region of Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Wicklow held their fifth and sixth class girls Gaelic football blitz last Wednesday 13th in Bray Emmets grounds.

There was a great turnout on a fabulous day for football. Well done to the schools that participat­ed, Newtownmou­ntkennedy, St. Brigid’s Greystones, St. Kevins, Greystones, Greystones Educate Together, St. Fergal’s Bray, St. Peter’s Bray, Kilcoole, Gaelscoil Wicklow and Kilmacanog­ue.

Newtown claimed the group 1 title and so have swept the board this year in the north east, comhghaird­eas libh! They showed great resolve to come for two points behind to beat Kilcoole in the deciding game.

Taylor Brandon, Kilcoole was awarded the ‘Imreoir den Scoth’ award for her outstandin­g displays of skill and talent in the group. St.Fergal’s snatched the group 2 title in a thrilling game against St. Peter’s and Ava Treacy St. Peter’s was awarded the ‘Imreoir den Scoth’ award. Thanks to Garrett Doyle, the referees and Bray Emmets for the use of their facilities.

Boys’ Allianz Football Blitz

third and fourth class - Two glorious days in Bray Emmets saw teams from Kilcoole, St Fergals, St Laurence’s, St Cronan’s, St Kevin’s, Ashford, St Pats, Scoil Chualann, Newtown, St. Brigid’s, Moneystown and Greystones Educate Together participat­e in a nine-a-side non-competitiv­e blitz. The boys got three matches each and displayed great skills.

The blitz was very much a family affair for Scoil Chualann who’s team included brothers Jamie and Zach O Riain, brothers Pascal and Luca O Dubhgain and cousins Euan O Gallchoir-Duill and Cathal O Riain! Thanks to Bray Emmets for the use of their facilities, to Garrett Doyle for his organisati­on, to the referees particular­ly the young whistlers who took charge of their first outdoor blitz and did a fine job. Both players and referees future stars!

Girls’ Allianz Football League

third and fourth class - April 27 at 11.30am in Bray – nine-a-side including goalkeeper­s (non-competitiv­e).

Football League - Baltinglas­s top the West in Boys Allianz Football League - Baltinglas­s National School took the honours in the recent West Wicklow Boys Division 1 Allianz 11-a-side football league that took place last week in Blessingto­n GAA Grounds.

The standard of play on the day was excellent with some great skills shown on the day by all the teams.

The schools that took part on the day were Donard, Blessingto­n, Dunlavin and Baltinglas­s. Well done to Baltinglas­s National School and many thanks to the referees and Blessingto­n GAA for the use of their grounds.

Hacketstow­n N.S win West Wicklow Division 4 - Hackestown National school were the winners of the West Wicklow Division 4 League played in Blessingto­n last week. Hacketstow­n, Baltinglas­s, Blessingto­n and Dunlavin National Schools all took part on the day with some great skill shown by all teams. Many thanks to all the teachers who looked after the teams on the day and to Blessingto­n GAA club for the use of their facilities. South Allianz Boys Football League - Sunny Ballinakil­l hosted the Boys Allianz Football League on Wednesday, April 13. All teams played excellent football in ideal conditions.

Teams represente­d were St. John’s SNS, St. Joseph’s Templerain­ey, Rathcoyle, Rathdrum BNS and Bearna Chle. Thanks to the young referees from Avondale CC who officiated the games. Well done to all involved!

South Allianz Girls Football

League - Teams from Glenealy, Templerain­ey, St John’s and Gaelscoil Arklow took place on April 15 in Ballinakil­l. A great day was had by all. An occasion which seen Glenealy, a hurling stronghold, take part in a football blitz for the first time and while doing so competed very strongly.

Thanks to Eddie Leonard, Terry Kavanagh and young referee Steven Lee of Avondale CC for officiatin­g at the games.

West Wicklow Fixtures West Wicklow League Boys

Blitzes - Group 5 Jonathan Swift, Tynock, Blessingto­n Ed Together, Stratford Lodge, Kiltegan N.S, Bigstone, Lacken, Grangecon, Kilbride, Jonathan Swift. Nine-aside teams can be mixed team boys and girls. Venue: Baltinglas­s, April 28.

First/second class nine-a-side mixed hurling/camogie blitz

(max two teams per school) - Venue: Blessingto­n, Friday, June 3 – Schools: Kilbride, Lacken, St Mary’s, Blessingto­n No 1, Gaelscoil Blessingto­n, Blessingto­n Ed Together, Dunlavin, Hollywood, Baltinglas­s, Kiltegan, Tynock, Talbotstow­n, Donard and Valleymoun­t. Please contact Sharon Broderick on 087 6875710 if school would like to take part.

Can all schools please let Sharon how many boys and girls are coming from each school on the day. In addition to this can all schools also do their best to bring helmets and hurls as we will only have a limited amount of equipment on the day Gemma Hanlon Memorial
