TIME TO PICK A NEW ROSE

JUST days remain before 2016 Wicklow Rose will be crowned at the county selection night on Saturday, May 7 in the Grand Hotel, Wicklow town.

Seven young women from across the county will compete to become this year’s Wicklow Rose and to take part in the Internatio­nal Rose of Tralee festival in Tralee in August.

There is more riding on the Wicklow selection night than ever before as this year’s selected rose will proceed straight to Tralee without having to participat­e in the traditiona­l regional heat in Portlaoise.

This year also marks the first occasion that the selection night be take place in Wicklow town.

The Grand Hotel will play host the the event which will see each of the contestant­s interviewe­d on stage by celebrity guest MC Brian Ormond.

The special guest for the evening will be the outgoing Wicklow Rose, Megan Swart, who will hand over the sash and tiara to the incoming rose as well as sharing her experience of her year as the 2015 Wicklow Rose, and youngest every contestant.

Megan has had a busy year, representi­ng the county at a wide range of functions as well as sitting her Leaving Cert and beginning student life as she studies Internatio­nal Hospitalit­y.

This year’s seven hopefuls come from all over Wicklow and will be sharing what sets them apart from the competitio­n during their interviews.

A night full of entertainm­ent and fun is promised, and kicks off at 8 p.m.

Tickets are on sale for €20 and there will be a door prize as well as a competitio­n for the best dressed lady.
