Corpus Christi Mass
The children of 6th class and 2nd class attended a beautiful Corpus Christi Mass in St Mochonóg’s on Sunday as a follow up to their recent Confirmation and First Holy Communion sacraments.
Members of the 6th class group opened the mass with a procession up to the altar. Scrapbooks made by 6th class and writings by 2nd class were presented as symbols of the children’s reflections on their sacraments. Fr David commended 6th class on how distinctly they did the readings and the Prayers of the Faithful were read beautifully by members of 2nd class.
Offertory gifts were brought up by children from 2nd class and the two classes sang together throughout this celebration. One of the girls from 6th class read out a Communion Reflection, before the two classes gathered on the Altar for their group photo.
This is the first time in Kilmacanogue that there has been a celebration Mass combining the First Holy Communion and the Confirmation groups. Special thanks are due to Mairead Murphy, who has worked with the two classes throughout the year; Sarah King, who co-ordinated the 2nd class group on the day; Sylvia Bolger who played the organ; and Breda and Alice Connolly who organised the refreshments in the Parish Hall afterwards. Most of all, a big thank must go to the parents and the children themselves who came along in their outfits from their previous special day.
