AUGHRIM

On Saturday, June 4, the annual Run the Rock challenge took place. The sun shone and the crowds came out to participat­e and support this club event.

This massive event is growing from strength to strength as each year passes. This is our fourth year and the club would like to thank all sponsors and volunteers for making this such an enjoyable day and to James O’Toole for providing the entertainm­ent for the after party. A big thank you to all the players and members who participat­ed in the run and those who were stewards or helped out in any way on the day.

On the day the juvenile members and members of Luke O’Toole’s with the camogie club took part in the 3.5km run and well done to all involved.

Anyone with sponsorshi­p cards please return as soon as possible thanks. Training continues Tuesdays and Fridays at 8pm from now on. Match on Thursday, see fixtures for details.

KILTEGAN

Our Senior football team had mixed fortunes in the county football league on Tuesday and Friday evenings at home to Avondale and Baltinglas­s on Tuesday evening.

We defeated Avondale by 0-13 to 1-06 after being behind at half-time by 0-04 to 1-04. We put in a great second half performanc­e with every player giving their all to close out the game on Avondale by a four-point margin. Our scores came from Seanie Furlong (0-05), Mikey Foley and Geoffrey Bermingham (0-02 each) and one each from Shane Lennon, Padraig Keogh, Rory Finn, and PJ Daly.

Our club welcomed home Allister ‘Boots’ Handbidge home from Australia and he played a stormer in the goals.

On Friday evening we played our near neighbours Baltinglas­s in the same league and lost the game by a one-point margin after a very tense and interestin­g game. The final score was 1-11 to 1-12.

We were forced to play without two of our key player, Rory Finn and Blaine Harmon, but all players put in a great performanc­e on the night.

Our scores came from Geoffrey Bermingham (1-01), Seanie Furlong (0-05), Anthony Furlong (003), Mikey Foley and Shane Lennon a point each.

Our Junior hurlers had another good win in the Junior hurling league on Wednesday evening, this time beating Barndarrig at home on a score line of 4-10 to 0-08. We were always in control of this game and were ahead by 1-08 to 0-05 at half-time. We put in a strong second half performanc­e and went on to win the game.

Our scores came from Eoin Coogan (2-00), James Whelan (1-02), Padraig Byrne (1-01), JJ Phelan (0-05), and Steven Coogan and Kevin Byrne (0-01 each).

Our Junior football team received a walk-over from Stratford/Grangecon on Thursday evening in the west Junior football league which leaves us still at the top of the table of the league.

Lotto - winning numbers were 25, 36, 29, and 30. No jackpot winner. Helen Farrell matched three numbers. Next week’s jackpot is for €3400.

Congratula­tions to Jack O’Toole (hurling) and Laura Kavanagh (camogie) who were both selected to play Wicklow hurling and camogie on June 16 in Nowlan Park.

Well done to Talbotsown school who welcomed Michael Ó Muircheart­aigh and Dublin footballer Jack McCaffrey as guests of honour at the school on Tuesday where a tribute was paid to Peter Keogh, who was a former pupil of the school and couched many hurling teams from the school over the years. A permanent plaque was unveiled in the corridor of the school in his honour in the presence of his family and friends.

Jack McCaffrey also made a special presentati­on to Jack O’Toole who was second overall in Europe in the Young Inventor of the Year competitio­n. We congratula­te him. Jack McCafferty was also kind enough to play a match with the senior boys and girls on the day also.

HOLLYWOOD

Senior Team - Bray 3-04, Blessingto­n 2-15. Blessingto­n had a very good win away to Bray on Tuesday night. Conditions and the weather made for a very fast and open game of football. The team produced an excellent first half performanc­e, with the scores standing at 2-09 to 1-02 at the break.

The second half was not as fluid, with both teams having periods of dominance. This result will give the Senior team much confidence as they head into the summer.

Garden County Developmen­t Draw - The Garden County Developmen­t Draw is on Friday, June 10, in Ballinakil­l. All tickets should be returned to Breda Brophy by Tuesday, June 7.

Thank you to all who contribute­d, your support is greatly appreciate­d especially by our Under-14 boys and girls Féile teams who travel to Cork and Kerry at the end of the month to represent our club, our town, our community and county Wicklow in the John West Féile na nÓg.

John West Féile na nÓg is a Club festival for Gaelic football and Ladies Gaelic football at Under-14 level, involving teams from across the Associatio­n and will be held in Kerry, West Limerick and West Cork on the weekend of June 24 to 26.

The club have organised a fundraisin­g collection of recycled clothing with Liberty Recycling in aid of our two Under-14 Féile teams. We will receive €4 for every 8kg bag of recycled clothing received. Green plastic bags are available from the clubhouse. They can contain clean clothes, towels, blankets, curtains, bed linen, shoes, bags, hats and handbags, and extra plastic bags can be used if you have extra. So get collecting and return to the clubhouse before the collection day on the 18th June!

Congratula­tions to Senior Player Clodagh Fox who attended the Lidl Ireland Teams of the League in associatio­n with the Irish Daily Star in Croke Park to receive her award for been selected on the NFL Division 4 Team of the Year on Thursday evening. You’ve done the club proud!

The weather was ideal for good hurling this on Tuesday evening at St Pats NS. Danny Bouchier had the pitch in good order for our Under-8s who were put through their paces. Our players of the week were Under-7 Ben O’Leary and Under-8 George Connors - well done boys!

This has been one of our club’s major fundraiser over the past number of years. If we are to achieve our goals as outlined in our club developmen­t plan specifical­ly additional playing fields we need to be very successful with all of our future fundraisin­g. Thank you for your support.

One of our club members, Lyndsey Kavanagh, is organising a fundraisin­g kids disco on June 11, which will be held in the Venue Nightclub at the Grand Hotel Wicklow. The event will take place from 5-7pm and will be fully supervised. This event is for over fives and under 12s. All proceeds will go to Cancer Research, tickets are €5 each and can be purchased at reception in the Grand Hotel.

TINAHELY

Senior football - Our league match against Bray Emmets was postponed until this Sunday, June 12, at 11am. This game takes place in Tinahely so please come along and support. Training is on Friday at 8pm. All players are asked to attend.

Junior football - Our Junior team were away to AGB on Thursday evening in the league but unfortunat­ely they didn’t come away with points. AGB win this game 2-10 to 1-10. Up this week is a home match at 7.30pm against Avoca. All players be present at 6.45pm.

Well done to Anthony Murphy and his crew for organising a very successful fundraiser in Black Toms last Saturday night. The fundraiser was called ‘The Cube’. Thanks to all who participat­ed and thanks to Black Toms for their hospitalit­y.

GAA academy is on at 10.30 every Saturday morning in the GAA field, all boys and girls under six are welcome.

Under-8 boys football is on every Tuesday evening at 6pm in the Tinahely GAA pitch. All boys are welcome to attend.
