CARNEW EMMETS

Carnew 3-8, Luke O’Toole’s 1-6 - Carnew had a very comprehensive win over the Luke O’Toole’s outfit when they met in Aughrim on Monday, June 27.

A perfect evening for hurling, with pitch conditions in great order. There would be no excuses for poor play. Both teams duly obliged and an entertaining game of hurling was played out.

Carnew were well in charge of this game from the start despite some patches of dominance from the Luke O’Toole’s team. Ben ‘The Poacher’ Gilligan was on hand to pounce on the O’Toole’s goalkeeper when he failed to clear his lines on two occasions in the first half.

Richard Greene had a great solo run and found the back of the O’Toole’s net to get Carnew’s third goal. A well-taken point by Ryan Conway and scores from Dan Redmond and Jack Keogh meant Carnew never really looked in danger of loosing this fixture.

A good performance all round by the Carnew team who had some good individual displays by Calm Patterson, Richard Greene, Dan Redmond and Will Molloy.

The most improved player of the year, Jack Keogh, was in great form with some skilful manoeuvres and was instrumented in a lot of Carnews’ scores.

Jack tapped over two nice points and with his All Ireland Féile medal under his belt, has grown with great confidence and skill. One to watch for the future, as they say. Ryan Conway. Ruari O’Brien, Cillian Doyle, Donal Rawson, Shane Byrne, the Kenny brothers, Dan Murphy, Jack Brownrig, Zach Jordan and Billy Molloy in goal also played well.

The hurlers won against Barndarrig and play Shillelagh next week.

The footballers had no game against Coolkenno and play Annacurra on Thursday.

The seniors played Glenealy on Saturday and play St Pat’s on Sunday.

The Intermediates played Kilcoole and play Glenealy on Saturday.

The Under-14s played Clan Na Gael and play Bray on Wednesday. The Under-16s played Rathnew and the Under-12s played Tinahely.

DERRY GAELS

The Under-14 football team played Blessington and Rathnew last week and came away with two very good wins. They travelled to Blessington on Wednesday night and won on a score of 5-10 to 0-03. Scorers were John Toomey 2-02, Adam Keegan 1-04, Robbie Doyle 1-00, Dylan Lynch 1-01 and points for Philip Toomey, Dara O’ Shea, John Moran and Oisin Dillon.

The backs and midfield were on top form and kept the Blessington boys scoreless for 55 minutes of the game. Oisin Dunne was back after a hand injury and he along with Dylan Byrne and Euan Harper played some great football out of defence while Robbie Doyle and Dylan Lynch controlled the middle for long periods.

On Friday night we hosted Rathnew and as both teams had a 100% record from the games played to date, this was vital game to win.

Derry Gaels again made no mistake and won out on a score of 3-11 to 1-04. Scorers were Adam Keegan 0-06, Oisin Dillon 1-02, John Toomey 1-01, Dara O’ Shea 1-00, Robbie Doyle 0-01 and Dylan Molloy 0-01.

The backs again were very impressive, this time with Conor Byrne, Pauric Doyle, Shane Arthur and Euan Harper playing their hearts out. The team have won six out of six now in the league, but they will have to keep that form going for the remainder of the games in the league if they want to finish top of the group.

AUGHRIM

The Under-8 and Under-10 footballers travelled to Carnew recently to play the local side. The Under-8s did really well and keep on improving with every game, while the Under-10s with a few players short were given a bit of a lesson in football.

The Under-8 and Under-10 hurlers travelled to Ballinakill on Friday night last to take on the Arklow Rocks and again did themselves proud.

The Under-10s, with a full panel of players, can play really well and put it up to the Rocks throughout, while the Under-8s who are somewhat smaller than the Arklow Rock players, made up for their size with determination and skill. So, well done to all, the more the teams play the better they get.

The Under-8 and Under-10 footballers play Knockananna on Tuesday night and then travel to Shillelagh on Saturday for another game. A further reminder: The Kelloggs Cúl Camps is just a few weeks away now, this is an action packed week of GAA activities, running from 10am to 2.30pm daily. AGB U8 and U10 girls travelled to Tinaheley on Saturday morning to play in a Blitz. There was a great performance by all the girls, and an excellent display of football.

AGB Under-14 boys travelled to Blessington GAA Club last Wednesday evening in a magnificent contest between two evenly matched teams that gave it everything. While the final result was a 5-5 to 3-11 draw, there were winners all over the field.

Each AGB player showed huge poise and ability in a game of tough tackling, pace and precision. This is the start of what promises to be a very strong finish to the Under-14 season.

AGB’s Intermediate team played Kilmacanogue on Saturday evening in Pearses’ Park and finished with a final score of AGB 2-14 to Kilmac 1-11.

A solid team performance provided for a win in a tough match against a strong Kilmacanogue side.

AGB pulled together from the start of the match right through to the end, and fought a tough battle in the second half to keep Kilmacanagoue at bay.

This win has moved AGB to the top of the table in the Campus Oil Division 2 League, and is the start of what promises to be an exciting team to watch in the championship.

Well done to Annie Conroy and Orla Hayes who represented the club on the Wicklow Minor ladies team and won the Leinster ‘C’ championship final against Carlow on a score line of 2-12 to 1-12.

ST PATRICK’S

Our Senior hurlers were out on Saturday evening in Aughrim in the Senior hurling championship where they faced Avondale.

The Pat’s lads went in at half-time ahead by a goal, 2-06 to 1-06. In the second half Andy O’Brien picked up his third goal of the game with the lads leading 3-10 to Avondale’s 1-06, then shortly followed by a goal from John O’Brien. The game finished 4-11 to 2-12 in favour of the Pat’s lads, picking up a well-deserved win!

Our Senior men were in action against Blessington on Sunday morning in Dunbur in the Division 1 Football League. At half-time the Pat’s lads were leading 1-07 to 0-05, and went on to win 2-10 to 0-09.

Tommy Kelly picked up 2-03, helping the lads grab that all important win.

Our Under-12 hurlers travelled to Greystones last Monday evening to take on Eire Og in the league. St. Pat’s were hoping to gain revenge for a one-point defeat earlier in the season and like the first game, this turned out to be another thrilling affair. After a slow start, Pat’s rallied impressively to turn over at half-time with a two-point lead, but faced into a strong wind for the second half.

However, some heroic defending coupled with outstanding score taking ensured a well-deserved victory on a score line of 4-3 to 3-4.

Best of luck to the team next Saturday when they travel to the new GAA National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown to take part in an Under-12 Leinster Blitz. The lads will play Fenians (Kilkenny), Ballinamere (Offaly) and Monageer (Wexford).
