HERITAGE WEEK CONTINUES IN WICKLOW
HERITAGE week continues all over County Wicklow this week, following a great start with a range of activities. The week of heritage continues right up to this Sunday. The aim of the week is to build awareness and educate people about Ireland’s heritage and encourage preservation and conservation.
With over 60 events all over Wicklow, there is plenty to choose from.
An open day will take place at Wicklow Head Lighthouse on Sunday, August 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is an opportunity to see the conservation work of Irish Landmark Trust.t
The Delgany Heritage Trail is a self-guided trail with leaflets available at the old burial ground or delganyheritagevillage.com. This will be on Sunday, August 28 from midday to 2 p.m.
On Saturday, August 27, There will be an 11km medium-difficulty walk along St Kevin’s Way Pilgrim Path at Glendalough, passing through glorious landscape and the miners’ village. Meet at the Glendalough car park outside the visitors centre and pay €5 for a bus to the starting point at Ballinagee. Call (086) 8594333 for more information.
At the Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely, there will be a celebration of Irish Wool with fair isle knitting on Thursday, August 25 from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and 1798 spinners on Friday, August 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To book call (0402) 38529.
On Wednesday, August 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a guided walk ther Bird Watch Ireland’s East Coast Nature Reserve, discovering the variety of wildlife to be found among the grassland, woodland and fen habitats. Call (01) 2819878 to book.
