Talks with the Department of Defence over the transfer of the building took longer than expected, especially once Wicklow Town Council was disbanded before negotiations were finalised. The dire need for social housing and the under-utilisation of the Community Hall and Parochial Hall are understood to be some of the reasons behind the decision to use the building for housing.
The FCA Hall also contains a memorial garden and Cllr Snell is determined that talks should take place before any final decision is taken regarding the garden’s future.
‘It is important that negotiations take place between old FCA members and any other parties involved. The memorial garden holds a lot of significance for people and if it is moved, it’s vital that it goes to a suitable location for everyone concerned,’ he said.
