Golf society’s captain’s day

-

2016 Plucks Golf Society captain Paul Murphy hosted his annual captain’s day in the beautiful Esker Hills Golf Club in Offaly on Saturday. Despite some heavy rain between the sunshine, Tom Byrne emerged the winner on 35 points, just pipping Paul ‘Babsy’ Dunne on a countback with third place going to Mick Holly (33 points). The category winners were (1) Mark Quinn, (2) Liam Finnerty, (3) Brendan Finnerty. The Front nine was won by Paddy ‘Bounty’ Byrne with Bobby Messett taking the back nine prize. Nearest the pin winners were Jim Messitt and Ray Lyster while the longest drive Gerard Touhy who had previously thought the longest drive was the route the members took to get to Esker Hills GC the presentation took place in the Bridge Hotel afterwards and it was a good evening for Colm Griffin who received his 2016 Matchplay winner award after he defeated Mark Quinn in the final and also, The 2016 Golfer of the Year trophy which showed his consistency over the five outings and richly deserved.

The members were given a nice surprise at tee-off when Graham Catering Supplies, which is run by Suzanne and Trevor Carr, presented all players with Golfing T-shirts. Suzanne took over this well established business after her late Daddy Jimmy sadly passed away and this kind gesture from Sue and dedicated society member Trevor was really appreciated by all the members. Also, thanks again to Helen and Nick from Plucks for the Goodie Bags and of course to the groom on the day, captain Paul Murphy, who continued to look after his soldiers that night in Tullamore – what a leader.
