JUNIOR CERT RESULTS
A huge congratulations to all our Transition Year Students who received their long awaited JC results on Wednesday September 14. The results overall were truly outstanding and very well deserved. A special congratulations to Caoimhe O’Neill and Ciara Fagan. The results of the students were among the top achieving in the country. Well done to all girls on their fantastic results.
HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING
The TY students are holding a coffee morning for the Wicklow Hospice on Friday, September 16, for sixth year students, parents and staff.
WORLD LIFESAVING
Three of our students Emer Kelly, Emma O’Brien and Amy O’Brien have returned from the World Surf Lifesaving Championships 2016, based at Eindhoven and Noordwijk in Holland. They competed as part of the Junior Irish Youth Team. Their performances were exemplary. Emer and Emma both competed on the Irish team that took GOLD on the four x 90m relay, a fantastic achievement. Emer finished fifth in the A Final in the flags, which was brilliant. Amy finished third (with Roisin Cahill from Clare) for the board rescue. Here in DCW we are very proud of your commitment, talent and achievements girls.
SCHOOL MASS
Preparations are well advanced for the annual school mass for the opening of the school year which will be held on Friday the 23rd. Our leadership team will officially be announced following the mass.
TALKS FOR PARENTS
Talks for parents entitled ‘Supporting your daughter through the junior and Leaving Certificate managing study, attendance and anxiety’ are being held for all third, fifth and sixth year parents. The third year parents talk was on Thursday, September 15. The talk for both fifth and sixth year parents is on Wednesday, September 21, at 7.30 p.m.
HIGHER OPTIONS 2016
Over 100 senior students attended the Higher Options in the RDS on Thursday, September 15. They were prepared and ready to ask the hard questions about fees, accomodation costs, scholarships and job prospects. Its a great opportunity to meet representatives of third level colleges in Ireland, the UK and Europe.
TY CAREER WORKSHOPS
Transition Years have completed a three and a half hours workshop on careers facilitated by Anest Mason, Guidance Counsellor. The workshops covered curriculum vitae’s, career brainstorming, the new Leaving Certificate points system and the use of career guidance websites.
TY BEAUTY THERAPY
A huge thank you to Celena Slavin from the Dublin Institute of Beauty who visited DCW on both Wednesday, September 7, and 14. All the TY students took part in a beauty workshop held by Celena. Skin care, nail care and make up tips were all part of the course. The homemade guacamole and honey face mask was a particular hit with the girls. A great time was had by all.
TY MUSICAL
We are delighted to announce that this year our very talented and enthusiastic TY students will be staging the musical ‘Annie’. Show nights are 14th, December 15 and 16 in Fatima Hall. Tickets will be available from the school office and Earls newsagents in due course. We are thrilled to have Anne McIntyre back with us as Producer and to welcome Phillip O’Neill to the team as musical director.
PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Leaving Certificate geography class are off to the Ploughing Championship on Tuesday the 20th in Tullamore, Co. Offaly with Ms. Fallon.
YOUNG SCIENTIST
Calling all Young Scientists. This year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition takes place on January 9 till January 12. Don’t forget to register your interest with Mr O’Brien. Any ideas for projects from students, parents, grandparents (or anyone really) can be emailed to Mr O’Brien at johnobrien@dominicanwicklow.com all suggestions gratefully received.
PARENTS ASSOCIATION AGM
The parents’ association AGM will be held on Tuesday, September 20, at 7.30 p.m. All parents of students in the school are encouraged to attend. The parents’ association carries out valuable work for the school including fundraising which is much appreciated by all.
