ST GERARD’S DAY

We celebrated the feast day of Saint Gerard Majella in our 98th Academic Year on October 12. The school community celebrated Mass in the evening where our theme was ‘Wisdom, Mind and Heart’. The table quiz, held earlier that day, is always a fun event with many spot prizes and quirky, yet challenging, questions. The annual Sugarloaf Race was particularly enjoyable given the superb weather conditions which prevailed on the day.

ELECTIONS

Congratulations to all our new Student Council and representatives. The elections, which were held recently, were preceded by plenty of campaigning and lobbying. The council is comprised of the Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy Heads and three representatives from each of the six-year groups while the Senate consists of the Head Boy and Girl and six sixth Year representatives. They play an important role in school life and have an input into various areas of the school.

HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING

Many thanks to all the students and staff for their wonderful work and effort in organising and supporting the Blackrock Hospice coffee morning. Particular thanks to our fourth, fifth and sixth Years who assisted in the preparation and organisation of the coffee morning. A special word of thanks to Ms. O’Dwyer, for her enthusiasm in co-ordinating and organising the event. The proceeds of raised from the coffee morning will be donated to the Blackrock Hospice.

TRANSITION NEWS

The most recent TY event in the calendar was the visit to Kairos. This is a radio communications programme where the students write, produce and present their own work. It is a full day event and highlights the students’ abilities in a wide range of areas. Our Transition Year Information Evening highlighted the wealth and array of courses on offer to our TY’s to engage with during the course of the year. These range from Chinese Mandarin, Steer Clear, ECDL, Occupational First Aid, Public Access to Law, Photography to mention a few.
