- By MARY FOGARTY

DECEASED UN veterans were rememberd at a ceremony at St Fergal’s Church last Sunday afternoon.

Post 21 of the Irish United Nataions Veterans Association held the service to remember 22 UN Veterans from Bray and the surrounding areas.

This was the fourth ecumenical servicee for members and comrades, the third to be held in St Fergal’s. The service started with a parade from the car park into the church. Family members of the deceased were then invited to place a photo of their loved one on the alter. The service was then conducted by Fr Joseph Whelan, Rev Martin O’Kelly, and Canon Bob Jennings. Bob is a veteran of the very first UN mission in Korea in the 1950s. Post 21 are very proud to have Bob (92) as a member of the organisation. After prayers, members rendered military honours to the deceased. This consisted of a minute’s silence, the playing of the Last Post and Reveille by bugler Anthony McCarthy. Piper Christy O’Dwyer played the National Anthem, flags were dipped and members saluted. Those rememberd at the service included Roy Briggs, Tony Graham, Ernie Richardson and John Vallely, John Nolan, Sammy Campbell, Noel Lyster, Paddy O‘ Toole, Ned Prunty, John Ashmore, John Byrne, Tony Byrne, John Doyle, Wally Ford, Willie Galligan, Jim Larkin, Michael Mason, John Murphy, Peter Murphy, Kevin Plunkett, Sean Tobin and Jack Tracy.
