OPEN EVENING

Coláiste Eoin opened its doors to the community on October 19. This was a great opportunity for prospective students and their parents to view the vast array of facilities on offer in our local school. Coláiste Eoin provides a complete and comprehensive system of education effectively combining instruction in languages, sciences and the humanities with the technological skills so necessary in the modern age.

Parents and children were thrilled to see the wealth of facilities available in the school. The subject area experts displayed and explained the course curricula and offered much appreciated advice to students regarding subject requirements and pre-requisites for further education. As always the practical subjects drew most of the attention as they displayed their wares. All the specialist rooms in Coláiste Eoin are new and contain the most modern technology.

The Materials Technology Wood class had students demonstrating how to use the lathe. Art Craft and Design had examples of still life sketches, papier mache, and clay models. Metalwork was producing personalised key rings and Technical Graphics had wonderful 3d shapes. The smell of home-cooking from the Home Economics Department led people to displays of tapestries and in-ordinate amounts of cup-cakes.

On an everyday basis Coláiste Eoin is unique in that it provides an education for students in small and familiar surroundings. The tight knit feel in the school allows for a very personalised education program for the students who attend. Extra-curricular activities provide assistance in the education of the individual. The school is involved in soccer, football camogie, public-speaking, debating, tennis, basketball and much more. The state of the art gym facilitates all the students in Colaiste Eoin.

The evening was a great success, thanks to all who attended.
