East Glendalough School
JUNIOR RUGBY
EGS Junior team remained unbeaten with a comfortable 4421 victory over St Columba’s last week. Try scorers included ; Ronan Cullen, Christopher Fitzpatrick, Adam Neill, Charlie Williams, Howard Noonan and captain Hugh Johnson. The game was notable as a number of first years who made their debuts including an eye catching display by Peter Schmit in attack and defence. The try of the match was a length of the pitch move with Johnson, Fitzpatrick linking up well before Noonan scored in the corner. This leaves the juniors top of their group with one game to go.
FIRST YEAR FUTSAL
The Transition Year students in Young Social Innovators (YSI) are raising awareness for the Syrian crisis. Wicklow already has a relationship with Syria through the Special Olympics 2003 and the Wicklow Syria Appeal. The group have been busy visiting different classes in the school and giving a heartfelt and very profound presentation on the crisis. Jersey day for Syria is on, Friday, October 28, all students are asked to wear a jersey or green and make a donation for the cause.
Our Young Innovators have also organised ‘Sing for Syria’ a busking session for lunchtime the same day. All students and staff are invited to come along, bring an instrument if they can and join in the fun.
FRENCH EXCHANGE
Twenty two students and two teachers from Lycée Descartes in Montigny le Bretonneux spent a morning in EGS on Thursday, October 13, as part of their fiveday visit to Wicklow. The students chatted and practised their French and English together before having a tour of the school. The two classes had already exchanged emails and videos and plan to continue to do so as part of East Glendalough School’s French Links Programme.
