Soccer action

Four teams were in action last weekend. The under-8s were away to Rathnew on Saturday. Split in to two panels, both teams did very well against a strong Rathnew setup with one team getting a victory and the other team putting in a great display of teamwork in their football skills. Stand out displays came from James Ward and Jamie Guerin for one team and Zoe Bradshaw and Tadhg Reynolds for the other team.

The 11s were at home to Rathnew on Saturday and lost out a thrilling game on a 2-4 scoreline. The Glens found themselves 3-0 down at the break but battled to get it back to 3-2 till they lost another goal right at the end. Luck was not on the team’s side unfortunately but the second half was a great performance by all the team. The goals came from Finn Kelly and Luke Honan and ‘The Gaffer’ Alan Prendergast was still delighted with all your efforts.

The under-13s were away to Coolboy on Sunday and drew 2-2 with John Fox and Euan Bowman getting the goals. This was a very good and hard fought game and with the Glens playing against the wind in the first half, they found themselves 2-0 down at half time. However, after the restart, the team really upped their game and finally got a goal back through John Fox and then a few minutes later, a Euan Bowman cross was deflected into the net to make it 2-2. A big credit must go to the lads for battling back to earn a point and keep them in the hunt for the shield.

The seniors travelled to Carnew on Sunday afternoon and suffered a 5-3 defeat. It looked so good for the Glens when they raced in to a two goal lead via Luke O’Callaghan but concede a penalty on the stroke of halftime. Sam Kerr restored the two goal lead after the restart but Carnew dug deep and got back to 3-3 before two late goals sealed their victory. Luke was best on the day along with Simon Doyle.
