DERRY GAELS

Derry Gaels under-14 football team brought their season to a close with a comprehensive win over Avondale in the under-14 ‘B’ Shield final replay in glorious November sunshine in the county grounds on Sunday last.

The lads didn’t have it all their own way, and the game was delicately balanced for the first 15 minutes, but when John Toomey got the first goal for Derry Gaels, the momentum clearly shifted in favour of the Derry Gaels team.

Avondale were blitzed with five further goals from the 22 to the 30 minute from Dylan Lynch (2), Robbie Doyle (2) and John Toomey with his second to put the game to bed at 6-04 to 0-02 at half-time.

Further goals from Dara O’ Shea and Philip Toomey stretched the lead before Derry Gaels took their foot of the pedal to allow Avondale in for 1-08 in last eight minutes.

This was no doubt a great team performance, with the lads saving their best football of the year for this game.

Oisin Dunne and Shane Arthur were great in the full-back line, Pauric Doyle and Euan Harper cut out many an attack from the half-back line. Dylan Lynch and Robbie Doyle controlled the middle of the park, while Dylan Byrne, Dara O’Shea, John Toomey, Dylan Molloy and Adam Keegan played some great football in attack.

cores: Adam Keegan 0-06, John Toomey 2-00, Dylan Lynch 2-00, Robbie Doyle 2-00, Dara O’ Shea 1-01, Philip Toomey 1-00, Dylan Byrne 0-01, Pauric Doyle 0-01.

Congratulations to the team and management on winning the league and shield this year.

AUGHRIM JUVENILE

Indoor hurling has started back in the complex every Tuesday night, from under-6 right up to under-14. All boys from Aughrim and Annacurra are very welcome to attend and try out the game.

The club is preparing for its annual Christmas raffle. It is the only fundraiser the juveniles do each year, so we are asking parents of the kids playing hurling and football to get behind it and sell tickets to their family and friends. The tickets will be distributed in the coming week.

Hard luck to Marty, Noel (the boxer) and the under-16s who played St Nicholas in the ‘A’ shield final last Friday, the lads played well but were beaten on the night by a better team.

Also if you have a spare €2 why not buy a ticket for the club lotto for a chance to win a nice jackpot of €3200 in the run up to Christmas. Last week’s numbers were 9, 12, 15, and 19, and there were seven match three winners who received €30 each.

Deepest sympathies to the extended family and friends of Liam Fitzgerald who passed away recently, may he rest in peace.

BARNDARRIG

Congratulations to two of our men’s squad, Johnny Devereux and Jack McCall who were key men in the county minor football final victory for AGB.

Both lads bolstered the team in the half-back line and did our club proud as well as being dual stars, bringing home both football and hurling county medals this year.

Well done to Orlaith Browne, Valerie Hollingsworth, Roisin Scales, Aoife Redmond, Laura Murphy who travelled to Port Laoise last Saturday, October 29, to play in the under-13 county blitz.

Also to Karina Costello and Iona Murray who trained with the squad all season but couldn’t make it on the day.

We had seven players on a squad of 38, an immense achievement and a testament to the hard work of all volunteers in the club, especially Ali and Laura and the juvenile coaches.

The winter hurling club is rolling along nicely, taking advantage of the dry weather.

Last Saturday we had from the age of four up to the age of …well …ahem… 40 something pucking around in the glorious November sunshine.

Everyone is welcome to puck around and no hurling experience is necessary and you might even be in with a chance of winning some money off the Cat in the crossbar challenge. He hasn’t been beaten yet though! Keep an eye on the texts and Facebook page for times. The lotto numbers from Sunday, October 23, were 3, 6, 12, and 19, there was one match three winner of €100: Noel ‘Horse’ Murphy, well done Noel.

Please support the lotto to help with our ongoing renovations at the clubhouse. Thanks again to all those who are selling and buying lotto tickets.

Club members and supporters would like to extend our sympathies to one of our dedicated coaches, Billy Costello, and all his family, on the recent sad passing of his mother Emily. Ar deis Dé go raibh a hanam dílís.

Also on Sunday morning the under-14 Derry Gaels teams beat Avondale convincingly in the Division 2 Shield final to add to their league success earlier in the year.

Congratulations to the Luke O’Toole’s Minor team that won the Minor ‘B’ championship a couple of weeks ago. Gearoid Murphy was captain and picked up the Man of the Match award.

TINAHELY

Under-14 football - Our mighty under-14s boys played Baltinglass on Sunday in the ‘A’ championship final down in Aughrim.

Unfortunately the result didn’t go our way on the day but well done to this fine team for a fantastic year. Baltinglass proved to be too strong in the second half and ran away winners on a score line of 4-9 to 1-8. Thanks to all the management for their help over the year.

Ladies Minor - Our Minors were out on Sunday in the county final against AGB. Tinahely scored first with a goal on the first attack but soon afterwards AGB took control and marched on to victory. To the players, management and staff well done on a fantastic year.

Lotto results – Numbers drawn were 11, 22, 25, and 27. The bonus number was: 12. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winner: Jimmy Carroll. Next lotto jackpot: €4,700.

BALTINGLASS

Lotto - There was no match four winner of last week’s lotto which was for €8000. The numbers drawn were 4, 06, 13, and 30.

There were six match three winners, each of whom won €50.

The jackpot for the draw to be held on November 7 will be for €8,900 and will be held in Timmins Pub on Main Street.

We would like to thank all of you who continue to support our lotto, as well as those who sell tickets, check tickets, collect and deliver etc.

Remember, you can also play our lotto on line. Please check out www.locallotto.ie. Perhaps you might pass this website on to those who are away but would like to support the club and be in with a chance to win the ever increasing jackpot.

Under-14s - Well done to the under-14 boys who are county champions for the second year in a row after a great win over Tinahely on Sunday.

The teams were level at half-time in what was a very tight game up to that point. However in the second half Balto took a grip on the game.

Jack Hanlon led the charge and found the net, leaving the score at 2-07 to 1-06 midway through the second half another goal from a very impressive Adam Martin put real daylight between the teams.

Tom Keogh found the net again for Baltinglass, who with five minutes to go were 4-08 to 1-06 ahead.

It was a lead that they were never going to relinquish and the final score was Baltinglass 4-09 to 1-08. This was a great win for the lads who deserve great praise, having had to be at the top of their game to get past St. Nicholas and Eire Og in earlier matches.

Well done to Hugh Kenny and his team of coaches on a job very well done

Minor Girls - Well done to the Minor girls who had a great win in the final of the ‘B’ championship on Sunday with a very impressive win over St. Nicholas.

Well done to the management team and the girls. Chloe O’Neill proved to be a great captain on the day.

Broadway - As the dust settles on the Baltinglass Broadway challenge, we would like to say thank you to all of you who supported us in any way, whether by donating time or money into the event.

The night was a huge success and it was great to see a small community such as ours, being able to pack a venue like Mount Wolsley.

What was equally impressive was that everyone, be they contestants or spectators appeared to have a smile on their face, and to have enjoyed the night thoroughly.

If you wish to re-live the magic of Broadway, there will be a get together in Germaines on Friday, November 11, to show a video of the night and so that the ‘Our House’ team can explain how they in fact managed to pull off the win, despite the fact that their singing, dancing and appearance could easily be called into question.

All in all, the night was fun filled and we look forward to those of you who enjoyed the night coming out to support us again, should we organise similar events in the future.

Well done to all.
