Goals galore!

-

THERE was no shortage of goalmouth action in Division 3 on Sunday as the three games produced 24 goals between them.

Gorey Saints grabbed a late equaliser against Ashford Rovers to earn a 4-4 draw. Colin Molloy (two), Seán Mulligan and Paddy Bergin got the goals for the north Wexford side, while Rovers responded with a Leon Murphy double and goals from Leigh Farrell and Paul Conyard.

Paddy Adair helped himself to a hat-trick as Carnew Celtic won a thriller agains Conary United 6-4 in Rooster Park. John O’Connor (two) and Jason Cowman got their other goals, while Conary replied through Pascal O’Reilly (two), Stephen Roche and Eamonn Kennedy.

Rathnew AFC had a good day at the office as they overwhelmed Ballywaltrim FC 6-0.

An Alan Driver strike had the Villagers 1-0 ahead at the break but they went on scoring spree in the second-half with John Sayer netting a double, substitute Terry Maguire scoring with his first touch and Jamie O’Connor producing two clinical finishes to round off an emphatic victory. AVONMORE fought back from 2-0 down at the break to inflict the first defeat of the campaign on leaders Arklow Town in the John Tobin Youth League on Saturday.

The pacesetters looked to be in cruise control when they switched ends holding a two-goal advantage thanks to strikes from Clive Keenan and Matas Lubosevicous.

However, Avonmore drew level with Oisin McGraynor and Kieran Penn hitting the net. Arklow re- gained the initiative when Keenan grabbed his second but the hosts weren’t finished yet and Donal McGraynor equalised before Oisin McGraynor plundered the winner.

The referee abandoned the match between Ashford Rovers and Rathnew after 25 minutes with the sides deadlocked at 0-0. Two Rathnew players had been sent off and it is alleged that the referee felt intimidated by remarks from the sideline.

Elsewhere, St. Patrick’s beat Arklow United 3-1.
