BASKETBALL

The senior team suffered a loss in the Regional semi-final against Avondale Community College in the Leisure Centre Arklow and the junior team also had a loss in their friendly match.

FOOTBALL

On Monday, December 5, the senior GAA team had a win against St Mark’s Bray in the first round of Wicklow Schools, Division 2. The match was played in Balleymone­y and man of the match was Peter Tyrrell.

SOCCER

First years played against Wexford CBS in Wexford on December 13 in the Wicklow/Wexford league. It was a very close match in wet conditions but sadly Arklow CBS lost 5-3. Scorers for Arklow were Kyle Nolan, (2) and Joe McGeary.

On Friday, December 9, the under-15 team played in Shankhill against St Brendan’s, Bray in the Wicklow/Wexford league. We won 4-2 and scorers were Marcel Kasperek, Seán O’Neill, Brandon Donnelly and Joe McGeary.

IRISHORALW­ORKSHOP

High Rock Production for a sraite pictuir workshop with leaving cert students on Wednesday, December 7. Student participat­ion aws a big part of the visit. Tips were also given for the upcoming Irish Oral Exam.

RELIGIONPR­OJECT

On December 9 Junior Cert students had a talk from Fr Murtagh on the SVP connection­s with the Catholic Church and the inspiring vision of the church as part of their journal work.

TYDUBLINTR­IP

On the December 8 the TY students did an outing to Dublin taking in Irish Aid and the Zoological Museum.

TYWORKEXPE­RIENCE

The Transition Year students completed another week of work from Monday to Friday, December 12-16. A big thanks again to all participat­ing employers.

CHRISTMASE­XAMS

Students have all sat their house exams over the last week and are now eagerly awaiting the Christmas holidays.We would like to thank all students and staff for their hard work this term and would like to wish all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. built. The grave is on the Leaving Cert art course and as such a visit is required so students can see the Neolithic art which is found at the Tomb. A wide range of motifs or symbols are used in Newgrange; circles, spirals, arcs, chevrons and lozenges are among the most common. It has been suggested that these geometric motifs have a symbolic or magical meaning but there is no real evidence of this. Whatever the meaning of these motifs may be they remain as remarkable examples of Neolithic Art in Ireland and our students in Coláiste Eoin are fortunate to have seen them.

TYTRIPTOCI­NEMA

The Transition Year students are in the midst of preparatio­ns for the school play and are rehearsing their dances at the minute with Danielle Byrne choreograp­her extraordin­aire. In an effort to lighten the tense nervous energy they took off to the cinema for an afternoon. They have been working very hard of late and a day off to relax and regroup was just what was needed. their projects for the Young Scientist Exhibition. It will be held in January from the 11th to 14th. We wish the girls all the best of luck.

ATHLETICS

The European Athletics Championsh­ips took place today, Sunday, December 11, in Chia, Italy. Emma O’Brien finished 64th and 10th overall with the Junior Ladies under-23 competitio­n

Past graduate Fionnuala McCormack (née Britton) finished fifth in the Senior Ladies race. She ran a great race from start to finish but was narrowly beaten at end.
