The Kilmacanog­ue History Society have announced a very interestin­g Series of lectures to bring us up to the summer break. All lectures take place in the Glenview Hotel at 8 p.m., normally the first Tuesday of every month with the exception of the January lecture and all are welcome to attend, especially new members. The schedule is as follows;

Tuesday, January 10, ; From Horse to Horsepower and presented by James Scannell. Tuesday. In his illustrate­d talk, James will take all present through the period when the horse was replaced by steam engines and motor cars. The presenter James Scannell is a well-known local historian and railway enthusiast is a regular contributo­r to local history publicatio­ns.

On February 7 ; Seán Keating: Art, Politics and Building the Irish Nation presented by Dr Eimear O’Connor. Tuesday. March 7: The Brabazon Family History and Killrudder­y House and Gardens by the Earl of Meath, On

Tuesday. April 4 ;The Irish Famine Roads by Charles Egan and to finish it off, on

Tuesday. May 2 ; Glenmalure: The Wild Heart of the Mountains will be presented by Carmel O’Toole. Entry is just €4 (members €3) and everyone is welcome.
