AGM - We had a great turnout for our Annual General Meeting last Saturday (14th) in the clubhouse. Rebecca Drew is our new Chairperso­n with Gary Kavanagh taking over as secretary. Full report next week.

Congratula­tions - Glenealy Hurling Club would like to congratula­te Ciaran Connuaghto­n who was a former treasurer of the club on his fantastic win of a new car on the RTE quiz competitio­n. Ciaran is being presented with his new car this week. Well done and safe driving.

KILTEGAN

As we have three club members being honoured on the night, Jeffrey Bermingham, Rory Finn and John Timmins. All support would be appreciate­d and it gives us as a club a chance to show our appreciati­on for all that they have achieved and done for our club Thanks.

Our club and the Kiltegan Camogie Club joined forces with our local supplier Kaideen Knitwear to launch our new club gear range for 2017 in St Tegan’s Hall on Thursday night with a large turn out of family’s players, supporters.

Anyone who could not make it on Thursday night can still place an order with the suppliers Kaideen Knitwear any time during the week.

Our club wish to convey their sympathies to Margaret Fenton, Rathcoyle, Rathdangan, on the death of her farther Bill William Byrne of Greenane Rathdrum on January 8.

To Margaret, her sisters, brothers, mother Mary, uncles, aunties, grandchild­ren, relatives, and friends our sympathy.

Also, sympathies to the Farrell family, Hacketstow­n, Michael and Rich, on the death of their sister Frances during the week, also the Murphy family, Tinahely, on the death of Pat Murphy. May they rest in peace.

AGB

The county final of the Scór na n-Óg quiz will take place in the clubhouse of AGB in Ballymoney, Arklow on Friday, January 20, commencing at 7.30 pm.

The winners of this quiz will qualify for the All-Ireland quiz final which will take place in the Waterfront Theatre in Belfast on Saturday, February 11. We hope that all clubs will send at least one team to represent them at this quiz. If you have any questions please contact your club secretary.

Registrati­on Day will take place on Saturday, February 11, in the Bridgewate­r Shopping Centre. Further informatio­n on times and venue will follow.

Player, Social and family membership­s are available. New options to pay registrati­on fee and yearly subs upfront, with discount benefit are now available. Also options to pay registrati­on fee and continue with weekly sub payment during the year will be available. Club gear will be available to purchase on the day. We look forward to seeing you all on the day!

AGB will host a Dinner Dance on February 25 to celebrate the great achievemen­ts and wins of the ladies and men’s teams during 2016.

Breakaway will provide the music on the night. Tickets are €25 and can be bought from Margot on 085 8624994, Jennifer on 086 8833159, Sinead on 087 1374812, or from the office in Pearses’ Park or Ray in Ray Menton’s Shop. This promises to be a night not to be missed. Don’t delay in purchasing your tickets as the night is now nearly sold out.

The National Draw tickets are on sale at the moment at €10 each with super prizes to be won and, even better, all of the money raised stays within the club. If you would like to buy some tickets or feel you might be able to sell a book of five please contact any club member. The draw will take place on the February 14.

AGBs Ballymoney Committee will host a traditiona­l night of Irish music and dancing on March 16 in the AGB Clubhouse, Ballymoney, Shelton, Arklow, as part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebratio­ns. Entry fee is €5, and a great night of ceoil agus craic is promised.

Due to age changes in Wicklow GAA, last year’s under-10s are now in the under-11 Wicklow county league. This is a great move for the boys, we will miss the Go Games blitzes, but we are ready for the challenge. Matches will be on a Monday evening, training nights and times will be confirmed in the next week. Anyone who wishes to join the under-11s, please come along to registrati­on day on February 11 and meet the coaches.

AGB’s Sports Prediction Quiz for 2017 is now available from all members of the men’s section in the club. Entry for this is €10 and the quiz can be obtained from any player or member in the men’s section. Emails have been sent to all of last year’s entrants. Join this great quiz for your chance to win a great cash prize. Progress updates and results will be sent during the year.

Congratula­tions to Fr. Liam Dunne on his appointmen­t as the new President of Wicklow GAA County Board. We wish Fr. Liam the very best in his new role and we look forward to supporting him throughout the coming year.

COOLBOY

National Draw Tickets - For the past few years Coolboy GAA have sold tickets for the Garden County Developmen­t Draw and were lucky enough to have some local winners and raise much needed funds for the Club.

Unfortunat­ely, this competitio­n is no longer running and the GAA National Club Draw has now taken its place. All the proceeds from our tickets sold will remain in our club.

Tickets are only €10 each and available from any committee member or player.

All tickets MUST be returned by Friday, February 10, to Sam O’Keeffe, Miley O’Keeffe or Stacey O’Brien. The draw will take place on Wednesday, March 8, and hopefully a few Coolboy residents will be among the winners!

Training - Thank you to all our footballer­s who attended the meeting last Saturday night with trainer Keith Byrne. Training will commence on Saturday, February 18, in the field with a time to be confirmed closer to the time.

ST PATRICK’S

Congratula­tions to the county hurlers who got their year off to a perfect start with a fine win over St Pat’s DCU in the Kehoe Cup in Bray and to our own lads Eoghan O’Mahony, Andy O’Brien, George O’Brien, Gerry Connors, John Connors, James Byrne, Michael Connors and Christy Moorehouse.

Andy O’Brien was on fire, scoring 3-6. They held off a strong second half comeback from the students to win 5-16 to 4-7. Next up IT Tallaght in Éire Óg Greystones GAA Club next Sunday at 2pm.

A tough day at the office for the Wicklow county footballer­s who took on DIT in Blessingto­n and our own players Dean Healy, Johnny Crowe and Connor Ffrench.

At the end of a well contested game DIT prevailed 1-10 to 1-7. The footballer­s now prepare for the visit of Leitrim on Sunday, February 6.

Congratula­tions to the St Pat’s girls Ellen Griffin, Aisling Walsh and Georgia Kelly who played for Wicklow under-14 girls against Offaly in Ballinakil­l and got a well-deserved draw.

St Patricks Ladies Committee Letter to parents: St Patrick’s ladies football has been very successful over the past 10 years winning at all levels. We think you will agree that all of our daughters have had wonderful football opportunit­ies and experience­s, celebratin­g on match days, playing as part of a team and meeting new friends.

However, this success will only continue to grow and develop with more involvemen­t from you as a parent.

For 2017, we urgently need parents to get involved with teams at all ages.

Your involvemen­t can range from collecting referee monies, putting out/collecting cones, looking after water bottles/medical kits, washing jerseys, taking drills, coaching/mentoring players. Training will be provided by GAA/ LGFA resources

We are now appealing for your help. All contributi­ons no matter how small are needed. Would you be prepared to give an hour or two each week to the club?

The juvenile presentati­on is taking place in the club on Saturday 28th January 2017. We will be available from 2pm to 3pm to answer any questions and provide further informatio­n.

We all got involved because our daughters were playing, we now ask you to do the same.

We look forward to meeting with you to discuss any questions you have.

From January 1, mouth guards will be mandatory for all adult ladies footballer­s. OPRO have come on-board with the WGPA to supply mouth guards to all its members who play ladies football.

Tom was celebratin­g quietly with family and friends last Sunday evening when he was interrupte­d by the players led by Garry Bradley and Dawn Byrne who presented him with a framed photo of the team after victory over Enniskerry in the county final.

Best wishes to Darren Flynn on Saturday night where he will receive the county Junior ‘B’ player of the year at a gala function in the Arklow Bay Hotel.
