Site selected for Greystones Community National School
GREYSTONES Community National School has been assigned a site in Charlesland, it has been confirmed.
The school has been located at the Rugby Club grounds in prefabricated buildings since shortly after it was established in September 2015.
Minister Simon Harris said last week that the site has been agreed and it is now at the conveyance stage of the acquisition process. He said that the process should move forward quickly and the new school should be ready by 2018.
‘We are absolutely thrilled,’ said principal Rory Kinane. ‘We’re hoping for a quick build now. It’s not looking like we will spend years in our temporary site. It’s great news for the parents and children and we’re looking forward to getting into our new building,’ said Mr Kinane.
‘We have a fantastic community of parents and teachers who have worked tirelessly to get this over the line,’ said Minister Harris. ‘I want to commend them for all their hard work and I look forward to having a fantastic new school for Greystones very soon.’
At the start of its life in 2015, the school was briefly in Templecarrig school until the facility at the Rugby Club was ready. At that time it had one junior infants class. The school will take in its third set of junior infants pupils in September 2017. The staff and families have borne some uncertainty regarding their future of late and are relieved to have confirmation of their new site. There are currently 79 pupils at the school in junior infants and senior infants. A further 54 will start this year.
