Triumph for Coolgreany

THE 62nd Wicklow ICA Drama Festival attracted large crowds to Glenealy Village Hall for three nights running, with Coolgreany Drama receiving the overall award for Best Group.

Twelve different groups took to the stage from Friday night through to Sunday, leaving adjudicato­rs with the tricky task of selecting the different section winners.

The Molly Moore Shield for Runner-Up Group went to the Balally Players, while Delgany ICA received the Condon Cup for Best ICA Group. The Adjudicato­r’s Award and Norah Ferns Trophy for Best Costumes went to Ann Hennigan of Delgany Dramatic Society. Ashford ICA won the Best Set.

The Gloria Mullally Trophy for Best Moment of Theatre and Best Actress was awarded to Doris Cullen of the Balally Players. The runner-up actress was Denise Moules of Coolgreany. Best Actor was Peter Robbie Delgany of Dramatic Society, with Martin Gleeson of the Amphitheat­re Company designated the best runner-up actor. The Best Director was Eamon O’Shiel of Coolgreany Drama. Winning merit awards were Claire Timmons of Ashford ICA; Peter Harrison of Delgany Dramatic Society and Nora Finn of Coolgreany Drama.

The Terri Connolly Cup for Best Sketch went to Delgany Dramatic Society for ‘Group Dynamic’ by Peter Robbie. The Adjudicato­r’s Award was received by Carolann Murphy, writer of ‘Are You There John?’ performed by the Wicklow Writers. The Best Sketch Performanc­e belonged to Sheila Deegan of Ballinteer Drama. The runner-up was Brian Lucas of Ballinteer Drama. Merit awards were won by Mary Doyle and Celine Moore of Ballycoog ICA, Marian Bohan and Marie Togher of Wicklow Active Retirement and Seymour Cresswello­f St Patrick’s Drama.
