JUNIOR BOYS’ FOOTBALL

Our Junior boys footballers played Scoil Chonglais Baltinglass in the quarter final of the Wicklow Championship in the college on January 17.

Blessington began very well with most off the possession and got the first score of the game. Scoil Chonglais came back into the game with six points of their own without reply. Blessington responded with a point, however the lead for Scoil Chonglais got bigger when they scored two goals and a point. A late goal in the half from Eoin Kavanagh reduced the gap between the two teams. At half time it read Blessington 1-2 Scoil Chonglais 2-7.

Lukas Sarkauskas and Jean Luc Morris were introduced at half time and Blessington really began to dominate. This domination led to a number of points and goals from Conor Reid, Jake O’Kelly, and Daniel Cooney. Within 15 minutes of the restart Blessington had drawn back Scoil Chonglais’ lead and the game was all square. The final 15 minutes saw the teams trade points. After 60 minutes the two could not be separated and extra time was required.

The first half of extra time was even with two points each. The second half of extra time saw the introduction of Francisco Corrales Rebollo. Blessington scored a goal, through Eoghan Daly, and a point without reply. However Scoil Chonglais had the final say with two goals and two points. The game finished Blessington Community College 5-12 Scoil Chonglais 5-16.

Congratulations to Scoil Chonglais on a hard earned victory. All of the players put in a massive effort and Blessington were unlucky to come out at the wrong side of this result. Next up for this group is the Wicklow Football B championship in a number of weeks. Well done to all players involved and to their coach Mr Kirby.
