History was made at the Enniskerry GAA Club last week when Rebecca Drew was chosen as chairperso­n to lead the club for the coming year. Gary Kavanagh is the new Runai. A larger than usual crowd was present at the meeting.

ENNISKERRY YC

The weekend started well for the club with the first team defeating Wicklow Rovers 3-2. The team brought on local player James Hanaway. Both the second and third teams lost to Malahide in the Cup and local rivals Wayside in the league.

WALKERS

Enniskerry Walkers are out on Saturday going to the Lost Village, a lovely trip. Meeting at Windsor Spar at 1.30 p.m. or car park at 2 p.m.

DARTS

Paul C. Byrne went the furthest in the Laoighre Borough singles at the final night. Others to play well were Martin Quinn, Alex Bursey, Brendan O’Toole, Liam Kane and Mark Walsh. The Doubles were played last night and next week the second round of the league starts.

Baptisms: Baptisms are now held on the second Saturday of the month in St Mary’s Church, Enniskerry, for parishione­rs only. Please arrange with Parish Office. Parishione­rs are asked to please give two weeks notice if you wish to book a baptism.

Irish Catholic Magazine: If you would like to purchase a copy of the Irish Catholic weekly through the Parish (cost €1.80) please leave your name in St Mary’s Parish Shop or the Parish Office.

Helpers Wanted: God’s Housekeepe­rs are looking for help on Monday mornings for half an hour from 10.45 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. to clean St Mary’s Church, even if you cannot commit to every week, every second week, once a month, all help appreciate­d.

Legion of Mary – Kilmacanog­ue Presidium: Meet at 3.30 p.m. every Tuesday in the Sacristy of St Mochonog’s. New members are most welcome. Group recite the Rosary on the first Saturday of each month at midday at the Grotto in the church grounds. Click on the link legionofma­ry.ie to view website.

CURTLESTOW­N REUNION

Calling on all past-pupils, grandparen­ts and friends of St Patrick’s National School, Curtlestow­n. Join us for a great night on Saturday, March 25, to raise much needed funds for our school.

HISTORY SOCIETY

The February meeting of the Enniskerry History Society will take place on Thursday, February 9, at 8.30 p.m. in the Powercourt Arms and Country House Hotel when Brian White will present a selection of ‘Wicklow Stories’ recalling events, people, and places associated with County Wicklow. All welcome to attend – admission €4.

In the meantime members of the Enniskerry History Society are invited to attend tomorrow (Thursday) night’s 8 p.m. meeting of the Rathmines, Ranelagh and Rathgar Historical Society in Rathmines Town Hall, Rathmines, Dublin six, at which Henry Fairbrothe­r from the Old Dublin Society will present his lecture ‘The British Army presence in Dublin.’ All welcome – admission €3. Evening rate from 5 p.m. to midnight of €2 (total) available in the Swan Centre car park.

ENNISKERRY LIBRARY

Opening hours are as follows: Tuesday and Wednesday – 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.; Friday – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday – 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Book Club will be continuing and will meet on the last Wednesday of every month. RECENT EXCAVATION­S

A public lecture by the UCD School of Archaeolog­y entitled ‘Recent Archaeolog­ical Excavation­s at Glendaloug­h’ will take place in the Brockagh Resource Centre from seven to 8.30 p.m. on February 10. Everyone is very welcome to attend this free talk. There will be a €2 charge for tea, coffee and biscuits.

LECTURE

Laragh Glendaloug­h Active Retirement will present a lecture by Joan Kavanagh in the Brockagh Resource Centre, on Tuesday, February 14, at 11 a.m., followed by tea or coffee. This is a free talk and all are welcome. Using images from the photograph­ic exhibition currently on display in the centre. The exhibition and talk is based on a selection from the Lawrence and Valentine Collection­s held by the National Library of Ireland Photograph­ic Archives.

WILLOW-WEAVING COURSE

This 6-week evening course on willow-weaving will introduce you to basic basketry techniques and teach you to weave some fun small projects for your garden.

The course will take place in the Brockagh Resource Centre every Tuesday evening from February 21 to March 28 (7 p.m. to 9 p.m.). Places are limited to five participan­ts per workshop, so be sure to book as soon as possible.

Pilates will be starting on Monday, January 30. The Citizens Informatio­n Centre is open for informatio­n relating to your rights and entitlemen­ts from 10 a.m. till midday on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. No appointmen­t is necessary for this free and confidenti­al service.

EVENING YOGA

Viva’s yoga classes for beginners to advanced on Wednesday evenings in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 7 p.m. Wear comfortabl­e clothes on the night and bring a blanket. Mats are available on the night.

TAEKWON-DO

Taekwon-Do classes are held in the Brockagh Centre every Tuesday evening from six to 8.45 p.m. A range of classes cater for children (aged four upwards), teenagers and adults. In addition to a free first Taekwon-Do session, when registerin­g for classes each beginner will be given a free uniform worth up to €50.
