ATHLETICS

2017 got off to a great start with over 100 children at athletics and will continue every Monday preparing for track and field, cross county and the Marathon. Tag rugby under-11 and under-14 tag rugby was well supported with over the amount to make up the two teams for county finals in February and thanks as always to Barney for coaching.

TALENT SHOW

Have you got talent? Singing, dancing, playing an instrument, or saying a poem? Some of our chldren are keen to enter various talent discipline­s and if we got more than two interested in each category of under-12 and under-16 age groups we can hold an area final. Please get in touch with Fiona Shannon at 087 2218366. We would love to have a great talent show.

LOTTO

Results for January 16: no jackpot winner; numbers drawn were 1, 11, 13 and 23. No matchthree winners. Jackpot stands at €2,800. Draw held in Saltee on Monday night.

45 CARD GAME

There is a 45 card game on next Friday night, January 27, in the Saltee, starting at 8.30 p.m.

WHIST DRIVE

There will be a whist drive in Annacurra Community centre on Saturday night next December 28. starting at 9 p.m.

MASQUERADE BALL

Ladies and Gentlemen, please join us for a fabulous night of entertaine­ment at the Masquerade Ball on February 11 in the Arklow Bay Hotel in aid of the Avoca Scouts. We will have the Victorian Hypnotist doing a show, a great DJ, photobooth, excellent lots for our auction and prizes for the most creative mask and best dressed.

Tickets are only €45 and include all of the above, prosseco on arrival and a three course meal plus an amazing night to remember. SYMPATHY

The local community extend their deepest sympathy to the Gilbert family, Plattinsto­wn on the recent death of Jim Gilbert whose burial took place in Arklow cemetery on last Monday after Mass in St David’s Church, Johnstown.

TIDY TOWNS.

On Monday, January 30, at 8 p.m. a meeting will take place in the May Byrne to discuss the spring and smmer jobs, and also the group is looking for a grant from the Wind Farm Group.

Another item of interest is if there is enough interest in the continuati­on of the St Patrick’s Day Parade, which will celebrate 10 years in existence.

As these Committees involve the same people, they are looking for a lot of support at this meetings to discuss plans for the future. Everyone is welcome and please bring a neighbour or friend along. Refreshmen­ts afterwards.

JOHN (JACKIE) REID R.I.P.

family and said they should be proud how Jackie had passed on his faith, real values and the memories he had created throughout his lifetime. The ceremony was enhanced by the singing of Rathdrum Parish Choir and Avondale Voices Choir.

Burial took place after Funeral Mass in Rathdrum cemetery. Sympathy is extended to his wife Maureen, son Michael and daughter Maureen, grandchild­ren, extended family, relatives and many friends. May he rest in peace.
