The death occurred last Friday of John (Jackie) Reid, Glasnarget, Rathdrum in St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin after a short illness. Jackie was a native of Wicklow Town but lived most of his life in Rathdrum and was married to Maureen (née Gaffney) and raised a family of two daughters and one son. Sadly their daughter Hannah passed away four years ago which they found very hard to deal with.

He was a carpenter by trade and worked with Wicklow County Council and Avoca Mines. He had a great interest in sport especially soccer but the big passion in his life and his wife Maureen was dancing and they travelled to many socials, dances, etc around the county and further to pursue their favourite pastime which they did with grace and elegance.

His Funeral Mass took place in St Mary and St Michael’s Church, Rathdrum last Sunday morning which was celebrated by Fr Derek Doyle PP assisted by Fr Francis. In the course of his homily Fr Derek said in the short time he had known Jackie one thing he was aware that he was a man of prayer and attended Mass and ceremonies on a regular basis and how faith can be the light that helps to direct us in life especially in sad times.
