Early blitz gets Valleymount men off to a flier

Miley both added a point for the visitors.

Shay Geoghegan scored a mighty goal after good build up play by Brian Miley as Blessington found they could not get past midfield with Valleymount proving dominant as Ian Richardson and Bradley Foster battled away for the Blues.

Mick Richardson and Derek Reid both pointed as the visitors were taking control of proceedings.

Brian Miley put another point on the board and then Valleymount thought they had a penalty when Sean Geoghegan went to ground in the large rectangle, however, “Get up” was the call from the Hollywood whistler.

In the 28th minute, Declan Cahill burst through the Blessington defence and goaled.

Shane Hughes closed out the scoring to leave the half-time score reading Valleymount 2-07 to no score.

Blessington introduced Jonathan Behan and JP Moran for the start of the second half.

Sean Geoghegan pointed in the first minute of the restart but should’ve goaled as he blazed his effort over the crossbar.

Dara Ryan was growing into the game more and more for Blessington and hit three unanswered long range points to give the home team some hope. Declan Cahill hit a long range point with 40 minutes played for the red men.

Then the home side hit a purple patch with Darragh Ryan leading the way along with Jonathan Behan, both of whom were linking up well. Ryan pointed and then goaled in the 45th minute to ignite the game.

The Blues kicked three bad wides to keep the pressure on their neighbours.

Both sets of players were finding the new mark rule a bit confusing, unlike some of the supporters on the sideline.

Dara Richardson and Johnathan Behan each pointed to reduce the deficit points with four minutes to play. Valleymount stepped up a gear with a point each from Shane Flynn and Sean Geoghgan to close out the game.

Blessington have a week to regroup as they clash with Kilbride next and Valleymount travel to Hollywood at the weekend for a battle royale.
