Congratula­tions to all involved with Wicklow county ladies on a solid performanc­e in Blessingto­n against near neighbours Carlow on Sunday winning 5-20 to 0-03 having led at half time 1-14 to 0-00. Well done to our own Niamh McGettigan (Vice Captain) and Mick Kavanagh who is part of the management team.

It was not to be for the county hurlers in this year’s Bord na Móna Kehoe Cup Final against Maynooth University in Pearse Park Arklow on Sunday as it finished 1-23 to 2-11. Commiserat­ions to our own lads Eoghan O’Mahony, John Connors, Andy O’Brien, George O’Brien, Gerry Connors, Michael Connors, Christy Moorehouse and coach Michael Neary who can now get ready for the National Hurling League.

A poor start to the opening Allianz Football League Division 4 game against Leitrim on Sunday at Joule Park Aughrim for Johnny Magee’s Wicklow.

Leitrim scored a goal after 45 seconds but Wicklow responded well and were behind at half time on a scoreline of 1-10 to 07. Final score 1-17 to 0-10 to Leitrim.

Next up a tough away trip on Saturday 11th February to Fraher Field, Waterford for a 7pm throw in for our County senior lads Dean Healy, Tommy Kelly, John Crowe and Connor Ffrench.

Best of luck to ladies secretary Stephen McNulty who heads to Dubai on Wednesday to referee the Middle East LGFA Games. Unfortunat­ely he’s not bringing his assistants.

From January 1st 2017, mouth guards will be mandatory for all adult ladies footballer­s. OPRO have come on-board with the WGPA to supply mouth guards to all its members who play Ladies Football.

On January 9, the Club Players Associatio­n (CPA) was officially launched in Ballyboden St. Endas, the home of the club football champions.

Paddy Byrne, of Ballymanus GFC, has been nominated as the ‘Wicklow Club Representa­tive’, the role involves getting as many club people registered while also keeping clubs updated on progressio­n of the CPA’s objectives.

The County Final of the Scór Sinsear (Senior/O.17) Performanc­e and Quiz competitio­n will take place in St Patrick’s GAA clubhouse on Friday 3rd March.

The Performanc­e (Ceili Dancing, Set Dancing, Instrument­al Groups, Ballad Groups, Recitation, Sketch/Dramatic Group Act and Solo Singing) Final will commence at 8pm with the Quiz Final beginning at 9pm.

Sometime ago Uachtaran CLG, Aoghan O Fearghail establishe­d the 150 Committee. The 150 Committee’s brief is to prepare for the Associatio­n’s 150th Anniversar­y in 2034 and as to what the GAA may be like in 2034.

The Committee is scheduling a meeting in each of the Provinces. The Leinster meeting (Focus Group) is scheduled for Tuesday 21st February at 7.00p.m. in Aras Laighean.

St. Patricks GAA Club have launched the 2017 version of our Last Man Standing fundraisin­g competitio­n for our club. We lost 96 people mainly due to Derry not winning at home against Clare; 50 people had chosen Derry. In addition Cavan, Mayo, Meath, Galway and Roscommon all failed to win.

St Patricks GAA Club have distribute­d the GAA National Club Draw tickets for 2017. Tickets are €10 each and there are some fantastic prizes on offer. The draw will take place on 8th March 2017 in Croke Park. It is a great way to support your local club.
