IRISH TRIP

On Thursday, February 2, our Leaving Cert students took part in Caith Amach É, a humorous, lively show which was being presented in the Civic Theatre, Tallaght. The show is based on the picture sequences that the students study for their oral exam. Everybody had a great day, we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

DEBATING

By Emma Gilheany fifth yr. stu

dent – After a lot of hard work and practice the day finally came. We went to the second round of the Wicklow Environmental Debate on Friday, January 27, to debate the motion ‘Ireland is failing to take action on Climate Change’.

We, Blessington Community College, were proposing the motion with a team made up of fifth Year students; Pearse Byrne, Emma Gilheany and Shania Cashin. We left at one o’clock and arrived in the Wicklow County Council Offices in Wicklow Town, where the debate was held, at about two o’clock. After succeeding in our last debate we had high hopes for this one. Nerves took over at the beginning of the day but, as a team, we helped each other through it. We put on our best performance but unfortunately we were not the winning team. Nonetheless, all of us were still very proud of our performance on the day.

Although we did not win we still feel the rewards that Debating gives us daily. We encourage anyone to join a debating team in their school because it gives students a great platform to enhance their social skills, presentational skills and confidence. We have learned to work together as a team and we will always appreciate the skills and qualities we have obtained throughout our time debating. We are all extremely grateful to our teacher Ms. Culhane for giving us the opportunity to join the team.

MOCK EXAMS

We wish all our third and sixth year students the best of luck in these stressful two weeks as they complete their mock exams. tion and should be treated immediately. The protocols involved which the students can bring back to their school were simply explained. Students learned how to Recognise the Symptoms, Report the Incident, Rehab and Rest and Return to Play Protocols.

AFTER SCHOOL STUDY

Coláiste Eoin has arranged After School Study for exam students only. Third and sixth year students can avail of this opportunity on Friday afternoons before the mock examinations.
