CHARLIE GOT A REPLY TO HIS MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE!

- By MARY FOGARTY

SIX-YEAR- OLD Charlie Tobin from Bray sent a message in a bottle out from his home town, and ended up getting a reply from Skerries.

Charlie’s mum Siobhan explained that she was telling her husband about her own childhood. ‘My parents were from Bray and moved to England. They used to bring us to Bray. Bring from London, we never saw the sea.’

So every night, Siobhan would send out a message in a bottle. ‘Charlie heard me and said he wanted to do it.’

He wrote ‘My name is Charlie Tobin, I live in Avondale Park. I am six. If you find this, please write me a letter.’

Rima Biltinaite Pojarkoviene then found Charlie’s letter washed up on Skerries beach. Unfortunately the address was washed off and Rima and her children put an appeal out on social media.

Eventually, Charlie’s cousin Maria realised that it must be him, and managed to put the two families in touch.

‘We have received a letter and we’re going to write back,’ said Siobhan. The children at the other end are aged 11, three and one.

The little girls’ older brother helped them write back to Charlie.

Charlie was very excited to receive his letter. His teacher even showed everyone in school.

He is in senior infants and goes to Bray School Project. His older brothers told him that he got more than 200 likes on Facebook. ‘He’s delighted,’ said Siobhan.

It was very much a case of beginner’s luck for the Bray boy on his first attempt.

Despite sending out at least a hundred messages, poor Siobhan never got a reply!
