PLOUGHING MATCH

Roundwood Ploughing Society are holding their annual ploughing match on Saturday, February 25, at midday in Diamond Hill, Roundwood (reservoir filtering beds). Sincere thanks to John Byrne for providing the site. Convention­al, vintage, Classic Tractor and Horse Classes will be catered for on Lea ground. Could all competitor­s please have their names registered before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, with Brendan Power at 087 2420204. Spectators as always are very welcome and we have a chip van on site for the day

PANCAKE/COFFEE MORNING

Keep Shrove Tuesday, February 28, free for a special fundraisin­g Coffee/pancake morning in Roundwood Parish Centre starting at 9.15 a.m. A young boy from the village has been diagnosed with cancer and we would like to provide a little extra comfort to him and his family. ART CLASSES

Roundwood and District Community Council with the support of Kildare Wicklow Education Training Board are running an eight-week art class in Roundwood Parish Hall starting in early February. KNOCK PILGRIMAGE

A pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday, April 23, leaving Laragh at 7.30 a.m. and Roundwood at 8 a.m.. Breakfast, dinner and bus is €60 per person. MORNING BADMINTON

Tuesday morning Badminton continues in the Sports Complex, Roundwood at 9.30 a.m. for approx one hour. Why not drop the children up to school and come join us? No need to purchase a racket as there are a few available for our use

ALL STARS DINNER DANCE

Tickets are available for the club ‘All Stars’ dinner dance on February 25 in the Glenview Hotel. Tickets €25 from Chris Brady, Shane Langrell, Lucy Molloy and George Power.

LADIES GAA. TRAINING

Ladies Training is commencing next Friday, February 17, at 7: 45 sharp. Training nights will be Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and Fridays at 7.45 p.m. All new and former players welcome.

LUNCH CLUB

A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday, February 17, in the Roundwood Inn at 1.30 p.m.

ITALY TRIP

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no jackpot winner in last week’s lotto draw. The numbers drawn were 9, 12, 27 and 29. There were three matchthree winners, Caroline DeSousa, SR Kavanagh and Gary Kinsella. Next week’s jackpot will be €11,200.

ATHLETICS CLUB

Want to get fit/fitter for 2017? Come take part in Roundwood and District Athletic clubs Jogging/running at the GAA pitch every Tuesday at 6.30 p.m., at the Coach House every Thursday at 7 p.m. (running under lights in the village) and at 10 a.m. on Sundays at the Vartry Dam. Be- ginners and experience­d runners all welcome.

Set a goal of 10K for Easter or 5K for St Patrick’s Day, you decide. We’ll help you reach your goal so layer up in warm comfy gear and come along.

CEILI FIGURE DANCING

Any adults interestin­g in reliving their youth when we all learned to Ceili dance? There are Ceili dancing lessons in the Parish Hall in Roundwood on Wednesday nights starting at 8 p.m. for an hour. It’s learning to ceili dance in a fun and friendly manner (solo and group dances). Just come along on the night

PURE MILE

The next meeting for residents and anyone interested in the Baltynanim­a Pure Mile will take place at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, February 20, at 7.30 p.m. in Roundwood Parish Hall.

MEN’S SHED

Meetings/Activities continue on Tuesdays in Knockrahee­n at Pat Carr’s place from 10 a.m. to midday. Preparatio­ns are under way for vegetable growing in raised beds – double or single. So come along and book your free bed. ‘Together we will make them grow’.

Beekeeping is on the agenda and wood turning has commenced and if you have any expertise/experience in either area your help and guidance will be appreciate­d.

Shed members volunteere­d recently to help erect a wooden backdrop to the 1916 commemorat­ive memorial in the village. The work was undertaken and completed under the stewardshi­p of Colm, one of the SHEDDERS.

The one to one phone/laptop/tablet tuition classes are still ongoing in Coláiste Chraobh Abhann on Fridays – 11.15 to 12.30. Unlike normal school, the mature students are learning to text and mail during class and the young helpful, patient, tolerant transition year students are very understand­ing. A search is under way to find an APP to help us mature students to remember what we are learning. There are no classes on February 17 and 24 but classes will resume again on Friday, March 3. Shedders and non-shedders – male or female are welcome to attend and it is not too late to join in and attend the remaining classes. ANGEL HEALING

Why not take two hours out of your week just for you and join us on a Monday evening at 7.30 in the Parish Hall, Roundwood. Here you will be part of a group who know that looking after their well being is so important. You will learn how to meditate and be still. SET DANCING

Roundwood set dancing continues every Thursday night from 9 p.m. till 11 p.m. in Kavanagh’s Lounge, Roundwood. Music this month is CDs and we will have the O’Kane Family back playing for us again in March and then live music for the remainder of the year. Admission remains at €5. Beginners are always welcome along with anyone looking for a bit of exercise and a fun night out. We are also doing a bit of jiving, waltzing and quick step before our weekly sessions starting at 8.15 p.m. so anyone wanting to give that a go, is more than welcome. No additional charge.
