World Day of Prayer Ser­vice: An in­ter­de­nom­i­na­tional World Day of Prayer ser­vice pre­pared by women of the Philip­pines will be held in Bray Methodist Church, Eglin­ton Road, Bray on Satur­day, March 4, at 11 a.m.

Christ Church Fash­ion Show To­mor­row Night (Thurs­day): This year’s show takes place in Fish­ers, New­town­moun­tkennedy, to­mor­row night (Thurs­day) from 7 p.m. Tick­ets, €20, avail­able from the Travel Bou­tique, Bray, or the Christ Church Parish Of­fice. The ticket price in­cludes wine and nib­bles and a 10% dis­count on all pur­chases made on the night.


Holy Redeemer Youth Cen­tre: We would like to in­vite all sec­ondary school stu­dents to join us in the Holy Redeemer Youth Cen­tre on any Wed­nes­day (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.); Fri­day Night (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) or Satur­day (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.). A great at­mos­phere to make new friends in a lovely en­vi­ron­ment with loads of fun filled ac­tiv­i­ties, movies and pool.

Prayer Ser­vice Min­istry Train­ing This Satur­day: A train­ing ses­sion will be held for those in­ter­ested in lead­ing prayer ser­vices in your parish. The train­ing will cover the dif­fer­ent as­pects of parish life, both litur­gi­cal and pas­toral, and aims to give an un­der­stand­ing of the need for lay peo­ple to step into the breech in the ab­sence of a priest. The fol­low­ing top­ics will be cov­ered – Why now? – Grow­ing our faith com­mu­ni­ties – Work­ing through the prayer ser­vice book­let – Ques­tions and con­clu­sions. We will of course have the prover­bial ‘cuppa’ and it will be a light hearted and in­for­mal gath­er­ing. It is ideal for those al­ready in­volved in read­ing at Mass but all are wel­come. Pro Life: The lo­cal branch of the Pro Life Cam­paign will be host­ing a cof­fee morn­ing on Thurs­day, March 2, in the Cof­fee Dock, Lit­tle Flower Hall, Holy Redeemer Church, Main Street, Bray at 10.30 a.m. Tea, cof­fee and re­fresh­ments will be served. Thank You: The or­gan­is­ers of last Sun­day morn­ing’s cake sale in aid of Habi­tat for Hu­man­ity for tran­si­tion year stu­dents trav­el­ling to Zam­bia to build houses, which was held af­ter 10.30 a.m. and mid­day Masses, thank all those who sup­ported this event.

The Cof­fee Dock: Is open each morn­ing Mon­day to Fri­day af­ter 10 a.m. Mass and on Sun­days af­ter the 10.30 a.m. Mass. Tea, cof­fee, bis­cuits and oc­ca­sion­ally cake is served. The Cof­fee Dock also of­fers a great source of com­mu­nity and friend­ship for peo­ple within the parish and out­side the parish. We would like to ex­tend a warm wel­come to all. Come in for a chat and a cuppa and per­haps make new ac­quain­tances while you are there.

Garda Vet­ting: The task of re-vet­ting all in­volved in parish min­istries will be­gin in the com­ing weeks. This is to com­ply with le­gal re­quire­ments.

Lour­des 2017: Book­ings for our parish pil­grim­age to Lour­des are now be­ing taken in the Villa Pacis. Thank you to all who sup­ported our re­cent week­end col­lec­tion at which a to­tal of €1,700 was col­lected. Thank you all for your most gen­er­ous sup­port.

Lent: Ash Wed­nes­day is on March 1 this year and marks the be­gin­ning of Lent. It is a day of fast­ing and ab­sti­nence and Ashes will be blessed and dis­trib­uted at all Masses. The Novena of Grace will take place from Satur­day, March 4, till Sun­day, March 12,. Novena prayers will be said at all Masses. This year’s Novena will be led by Fr Kevin O’Rourke SJ Prayer leaflets avail­able in the church. Tró­caire boxes will be avail­able in the church porches from next week­end.

Cake Sale and In­for­ma­tion Day: Coun­cil 100 (Bray) of the Knights of St Colum­banus will hold a cake sale and in­for­ma­tion day in Villa Pacis this Sun­day Fe­bru­ary af­ter the 10.30 a.m. and mid­day Masses. Mem­bers will be present to ex­plain the work of the Knights in the Bray com­mu­nity.

Last Thurs­day night, James Scan­nell, PRO of the Bray Cualann His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety, the lo­cal his­tory so­ci­ety for Bray and North Wick­low, was the guest speaker for the Fe­bru­ary meet­ing of the Bray Cualann His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety which took place at 8 p.m. in the Royal Ho­tel, Bray, at which he re­vealed the re­mark­able story of ‘Cap­tain Her­mann Go­ertz: The Ger­man WW2 Gatherer, who landed in full mil­i­tary uni­form’ in 1940 and the con­tacts he had with nu­mer­ous peo­ple in County Wick­low and County Dublin, stayed in sev­eral safe houses in the North Wick­low and South Dublin area, and re­mained in cir­cu­la­tion for over 15 months till fi­nally ar­rested in Clon­tarf, Co. Dublin.

The March meet­ing of the Bray Cualann His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety takes place in the Royal Ho­tel, Bray, on Thurs­day, March 16, at which Dr Charles Han­non will present his lec­ture on ‘Roger Case­ment and 1916.’ All wel­come to at­tend.

An­nual Mem­ber­ship of the Bray Cualann His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety is €15 and cov­ers two Adults+2 Chil­dren, and can be taken out at any meet­ing of the so­ci­ety. Ad­mis­sion to lec­tures is €5 vis­i­tors – mem­bers free.
