Chakra by Jaipur crowned Best World Cuisine in Leinster at restaurant awards

CHAKRA by Jaipur restaurant in Grey- stones won Best World Cuisine in the Leinster finals of the Irish Restaurant of the Year awards.

The first of the four regional finals in this year’s awards took place in the Lyrath Estate, Kilkenny, where 105 awards were presented to Leinster’s leading chefs, restaurant­s and pubs.

Over 600 people attended the Leinster Regional Final, with Wicklow establishm­ents compliment­ed for their high standards.

Chakra by Jaipur, an Indian restaurant based in Greystones, was the only Wicklow winner of the Leinster regional finals.

Other winners in the County Wicklow section included The Pigeon House in Delgany which received the Best Restaurant award.

The Pigeon House chef, Francois Jacusse, was selected as the Best Chef in Wicklow.

Byrne and Woods Bar and Restaurant of Roundwood won the Best Gastro Pub award.

Best Casual Dining experience went to Dockyard No. 8 of Bray.

Sika Restaurant at the Powerscour­t Hotel received recognitio­n as the Best Hotel Restaurant.

Rathsallag­h House, Dunlavin, was the recipient of an award for Best Customer Service.

Sika Restaurant was also recognised for the Best Wine Experience.

Bray’s The Wild Goose won Best Newcomer.

The Glenmalure Lodge was honoured as Pub of the Year.

Speaking at the awards, Adrian Cummins, Chief Executive of the Restaurant­s Associatio­n of Ireland (RAI) said, ‘now in their ninth year, the Irish Restaurant Awards continue to showcase the exquisite and admirable calibre of food available in our restaurant­s and pubs nationwide.

‘Online nomination­s have increased from 9,000 in 2013 to over 80,000 this year and with the increase in interest comes an increase in standards, making the judging process more difficult than ever.

‘Our small island boasts everything from fine dining to high quality gastropubs, from the exotic taste explosions of world cuisine to the comfort of traditiona­l dishes.’
