EMMANUEL
Congratulations to all those who participated in the Emmanuel Concert in the Helix on Monday last, particularly Megan Rea and Colm Roche, who both had solo pieces on the night. It was a fantastic night with 60 schools in attendance. All members of the Transition Year choir took part in this annual event.
FRENCH EXCHANGE
We bid a fond ‘au revoir’ to the French teachers and students from Lycée Thomas Corneille in Barentin near Rouen. They spent five days with us, during which time they did the Viking Splash tour in Dublin and the Spink walk in Glendalough. They also spent time in school testing out their baking, metalwork and hurling skills.
JUNIOR CERTIFICATE ORALS
Best wishes to the Junior Certificate students who are currently doing their State oral exams in French and Irish. The oral component of the Junior Certificate exam is an important way for students to build competence in the language they are studying and is excellent preparation for the Leaving Certificate.
GLOBAL ISSUES FORTNIGHT
Many thanks to the Transition Year Development Education class and their teacher Mr Healy for the recent Global Issues Fortnight in the school. The three main themes for this year are Climate Change, Poverty and Inequality. Many thanks to Fyffes Bananas for donating 700 bananas and to Cole Kelly for being ‘Mr Banana Guy’.
Ms O’Brien’s second year CSPE class are focussing on Fair Trade for their CSPE Action Project and were busy highlighting the importance of Fair Trade in the world. The students also visited the CSPE and SPHE classes in the school to do walking debates with the first and second year students. Guest speakers also visited the school from Concern Worldwide, Barnardo’s and Goal. Students will also be planting trees in the school as part of National Tree Week.

Congratulations to Sophie Heaton, Lucy Shortt, Hyrum Scott and Alex Brady on their success in the quarter finals of the Wicklow debates last week. They are now through to the semi-final. Well done to all involved.
