COFFEES PUT ON HOLD AS WATER CUT OFF

- BY MARY FOGARTY

MANY RESIDENTS of Bray were left without their morning cappuccino on Sunday due to burst water mains in the town.

Pipes burst at Vevay Road and Bentley Park, causing major disruption to water services in homes and businesses around the town.

Water spilled onto the roads, with drivers urged to exercise caution. Businesses were forced to stop serving coffee and other refreshments for the duration of the water suspension.

Irish Water was working on the faults from after 8 a.m. on Sunday morning. Service had returned by Sunday evening to most homes. Some, however, remained without supply due to air locks. The water remained cloudy and pressure low in many areas.

HUNDREDS of homes and businesses in Bray were left without water last Sunday after burst water mains at Bentley Park and Vevay Road.

This came just two weeks after a burst pipe at Seacrest shut the water down at Seacrest, Loreto Grange and Sidmonton Gardens.

There were large amounts of water flowing onto the road at Vevay Road and Bentley Park during the incident.

On this occasion, areas affected included Charnwood, Novara Avenue, Albert Avenue, Strand Road, the Dart station, Lauderdale, Vevay Road, Meath Road, Rosslyn estate and more.

Parnell Road, Connolly Square and Bray Main Street were also without water for the day.

There were no coffees being served in businesses in affected areas of Bray for the duration of the works.

Irish Water were on site and repairing the faults from around 8.30 a.m.

Motorists were alerted to a stop-go system on Vevay Road during the works.

Water had returned to all areas by around 5 p.m. In some cases the pressure remained low and the water cloudy for a number of hours.

A number of residents reported still having no water since Sunday, due to suspected airlocks.
