Soccer star Aine supports Purple House in marathon

-

Irish international soccer player Aine O’Gorman has been announced as Purple House Cancer Support’s VHI Women’s Mini Marathon Ambassador for 2017.

Aine has 94 caps for Ireland and started with home club Enniskerry and has since played for Stella Maris, Doncaster Rovers and Peamount United before her 2014 summer move to UCD Waves where she was made captain and went on to be named Continental Tyres Women’s National League Player of the Year for 2014-15.

Aine has won FAI U14, U16, U18 and Senior Cup medals and also the Women’s National League Cup.

Aine is calling on women, especially young women, to take part in the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon for Team Purple House and by doing so you will help to support families affected by cancer in Ireland.

‘As a young female sports player, I understand the need for everyone to stay active, keep fit and to lead a healthy lifestyle,’ said Aine.

‘My goals and the goals of Purple House Cancer Support are similar in ensuring that we both encourage people to take regular exercise and eat healthy, which will help to reduce your cancer risk.

‘I hope we can use this message to encourage young women to join me on Team Purple House in the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon on June 5’

Physical activity is vital in reducing your cancer risk and to help, Aine will be publishing an eight-week training plan on Purple House Cancer Support’s Facebook page to ensure that everyone is physically fit to take on the 10km event.

If you would like to join Aine and Team Purple House, email info@purplehouse.ie for a Mini Marathon pack.
