WDSL moving in right direction

-

“NOT all soccer in Wicklow is negative”. So says WDSL Chairperson Peter Porter who took charge of the first WDSL manager/coaches meeting in the Grand Hotel last Wednesday night.

The WDSL in the last two years under the guidance of Porter is going from strength to strength. All clubs have had the benefit of coaching courses, futsal and blitz events.

“This is an open and transparent league, with the emphasis on development, and long term goal to have a centre of excellence,” said Porter.

“That was the theme of the first WDSL manager/coaches meeting in the Grand Hotel last Wednesday night. The reason behind this meeting was to get a flow of information from committee to the managers, which doesn’ always happen.

“Views from both sides were expressed, and the committee admitting that is does make mistakes. Also, to note there is a misunderstanding of what powers the league has over referees and FAI. This was explained, and all now know that the league must be self-sufficient and is not funded by the FAI.

“If it was, then it would have its own headquarters and could offer the facilities to its thousands of Wicklow members. However, this must be done by the WDSL and its members on their own. Although the lobbying of County Council and FAI for support will continue,” he added.

Discussions of the FAI PDP and the roll out of Summer football was also discussed at the meeting.

Following on from this productive meeting on Wednesday, the WDSL announced a League and Club Fundraiser for November in the Parkview in Newtown.

The ‘KUBE’ will be the attraction, and a member from each club must enter.

This is huge opportunity for each club to make some well needed fundraising, and with the backing of the league and clubs and league working together this will be a huge fundraiser.

Further details giving to delegates on the night and more information will follow.

So, all in all the schoolboy/girls section of the soccer community is working in the right direction.
