Gardaí seek to identify man found on beach

BODY OF MAN IN HIS 40S WAS FOUND IN BRAY ON MONDAY, MARCH 27

- BY MARY FOGARTY

The identity of a deceased man found on the beach in Bray last week is still unknown.

The man in his 40s was found on the north end of the strand, before the harbour wall, on the morning on Monday, March 27.

Gardaí in Bray are appealing for information to help identify the man.

He is described as a white male approximately in his early 40s with blue eyes, of very slim build and with dark brown hair, greying around the temple and six foot one in height.

He was wearing a green and brown camouflage jacket, blue jeans and black runner boots. He was found with a brown and green camouflage rucksack, which contained a pair of glasses.

A passer-by reported the find that morning, and gardai attended the scene where the deceased was washed on to the beach. This occurred at around 8 a.m.

The man’s remains were taken to Loughlinstown hospital by undertakers from Thomas Murphy and Sons, where a post mortem examination was carried out.

Gardaí began to make efforts to establish his identity. Superintendent Pat Ward said last week that he did not appear to be any person currently reported missing that they were aware of.

The man was not carrying any identification or mobile phone.

Gardaí believe that the gentleman died as a result of drowning, with no indication of any violence on his remains.

It is believed that the man had died no more than a few days prior to the discovery.

Garda Declan Lynch of Bray Garda Station said that the investigation is continuing and gardai are urging anyone who may know who this man is to come forward.
