Parking bye laws ‘could see charge at park and ride facility’

-

FORMER Greystones based Councillor George Jones has urged residents to get involved with proposals to change current parking bye laws.

Mr Jones said: ‘Since I retired from the Council in 2014, I very seldom issue any statements concerning current County Council matters but since there are a number of proposed changes being suggested in the parking bye-laws and having been very involved when parking regulations were first introduced I have decided to make some comments.

‘While I agree that parking regulations are still required in the interest of the local community and commercial businesses in the town, some of the proposed changes are most unfair and will doing nothing for good parking around Greystones.’ He said that he strongly opposes the introduction of a fee on the park and ride, as well as the proposed increase of 100 per cent for resident parking permits. ‘One of the worse proposals is removing the availability of visitor parking books of tickets, which were available for visiting children & grandchildren in areas where residents are required to buy parking permits,’ he said. George also asked the council in his submission to engage with the owners of five private carparks to agree a uniform approach to parking regulation and suggest that they get rid of the current clamping arrangements that they have in place. ‘ This type of action should have no place in proper parking regulations,’ he said. He urged residents to contact the council before April 18 at parkingbyelaws@wicklowcoco.ie.
