HEARTBREAK AT TOMMY’S DEATH

TOMMY HEFFERNAN DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO FOOTBALL, PARTICULARLY SCHOOLBOY AND YOUTH GAMES

- By MARY FOGARTY

THE sporting community and people of Bray are in mourning following the death of Tommy Heffernan after a short illness.

Tommy (63) died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Monday evening.

He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Carol, Sharon and Clare, and his son Stephen, his children-in-law, three grandchildren, his sisters, his relatives and many friends.

After many successful years as chairman of the Dublin & District Schoolboys League, the Wicklow League was lucky enough to have Tommy offer his services.

A resident of Corke Abbey in Bray, Tommy was originally from Sallynoggin.

Secretary John Shea said that this would have been Tommy’s third year with Wicklow as fixtures secretary and treasurer.

‘He gave so much of his time to schoolboy soccer,’ said John. ‘He was also a devoted family man. This is a shocking loss to the community.’

Michael Conlon of Wicklow League said that Tommy will be sorely missed. Tommy will be reposing at his home this evening ( Wednesday), from 4 p.m. with a gathering of family and friends for prayers at 7 p.m.

The removal will take place on Thursday morning to Our Lady of Victories Church, Sallynoggin, arriving at 9.50 a.m. for Funeral Mass, followed by burial at Shanganagh Cemetery.

THOSE taking part in Darkness into Light 2017 are reminded that the nationwide event will take place at four separate Wicklow venues this year.

The fundraising and awareness event in aid of Pieta House will commence at 4.15 a.m. in Arklow, Wicklow, Bray and Baltinglass.
