Sam Blake is back with ‘In Deep Water’

- By MARY FOGARTY

FOLLOWING on the success of her bestselling debut novel Little Bones, shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards, Kilmac woman Sam Blake is back with’ In Deep Water’.

According to Magpie Books in Enniskerry, her latest novel is ‘ twistier than the 21 bends’.

Featuring Enniskerry, Dun Laoghaire and Shankill, the story takes readers through the dark side of Dublin City to the Dublin Mountains and some high octane scenes set near Blessington.

The book was launched recently at Hodges Figgis in Dublin.

‘Wicklow is a fantastic country to set a story in, it’s got so many stunning remote locations where all sorts of things can go wrong for my characters,’ said the author.

‘Cat Connolly had lots to prove in In Deep Water, but she’s back on form and fighting fit. This story is a personal one for her as she’s tracking her missing best friend Sarah Jane Hansen. But the hunt takes her to places that she really doesn’t expect and brings her up against contract killer.’

Sam Blake is a pseudonym for Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin, founder of the Inkwell Group and the hugely popular writing resources website Writing.ie.

Vanessa is also Ireland’s leading literary scout and works closely with agents and publishers to discover new talent.

In that role, she has helped to start the careers of many award-winning and bestselling authors.

But writing is her first love, ‘ The best part of my day is plugging my headphones into Cat Connolly’s sound track and seeing what trouble she’s got herself into now. I love the way she was described in one review in the Independent: “Connolly, for whom the word ‘gutsy’ might have been invented, is a terrific character”.’

The first in the Cat Connolly trilogy, Little Bones hit the Number One spot for four weeks and stayed in the Top Ten for another four weeks back in spring 2016, and was shortlisted for Irish Crime novel of the Year at the Irish Book Awards.

Vanessa is hoping readers will be keen to see that happens to Cat In Deep Water as it arrives in shops.

Vanessa has two children, 17 and 12 and is married to a retired member of An Garda Siochana.

‘It’s really important to me when I write to make sure that the policing and forensics are factually accurate in my books. My husband’s colleagues have been incredibly generous with their time over the years.’
