Brittas Bay’s status as a prestige tourist destination is now such that a scheme of 34 holiday cottages built in the area have sold out a £100,000 each.

And the developers of the complex, ‘Brittas Bay Village’, are confident that there will be no trouble finding buyers for the 64 more houses they plan to build if the application they have lodged with Wicklow County Council proves successful.

Brothers David and Paul Coulston began construction of Brittas Bay Village in July of last year and, just this month, buyers of the three-bedroom houses began moving in.

In March, the two Dubliners lodged an application with Wicklow County Council for permission to build a similar scheme, adjacent to the first one, at Cornagower West.

‘Houses in Brittas Bay are scarce,’ said David, who spent his youth holidaying in a mobile home the family kept in the area. It is a popular areas, and houses have no difficulty selling there.

Brittas Bay Village’s 34 houses are built in the style of traditional cottages and are on a 11.5 acre site.

The entire area has been landscaped and the annual service fee homeowners pay will cover the cost of maintaining the appearance of the estate – as well as the cost of painting the exterior of their houses every three years.

‘We have literally put three times what we were going to put into the landscaping,’ said David.

There are three all-weather tennis courts, a croquet lawn, a football pitch, and an administration building, which will hava a pool room and a small shop.
