Samba workshops
The Charlesland Youth Planning Committee and Music Generation Wicklow are joining forces to offer Samba drumming lessons to the young people of Charlesland.
This is an exciting new development for the committee, who first came together with the aim of getting a Youth Centre for Charlesland.
A recent survey conducted by the committee has shown that there are hundreds of children in the estate and has identified the lack of activities for older children as being a gap in service provision in the area.
Cllr Jennifer Whitmore, committee member, said ‘We are delighted to be able to work in partnership with Music Generation Wicklow on this project to provide the children of Charlesland a fun and novel activity in their own estate.
‘Samba is a fun way for the kids to learn music and play as part of a team.’
The eight-week course has been under way for a couple of weeks now, with the students learning how to use samba drums, tamborims, shakers and bells.
This is something that all children can do and no experience is necessary.
The young people gather with their tutor at the Charlesland Community Centre for the lessons.
